Obituary of Jane Bulger

Jane Robinson Bulger (née Pirie) Died peacefully at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre on Wednesday, November 23rd, 2011, following a serious stroke. Born in Toronto in 1928 to Dr. George and Mrs. Marguerite Pirie (he was Supervisor of Great Ormond Street Hospital during WWI, later practicing at Toronto's Sick Kids Hospital). Jane and her sister Ann moved to Cobourg in 1939 to be raised by their Aunt Ann after both parents died prematurely. The Pirie girls blossomed in their new surroundings, setting up a lifetime of good cheer and mild mischief. She returned to Toronto to continue her studies in art at Northern Vocational while living with her half-sister Mimi and her husband Roy Funston. Upon graduation she worked at Imperial Oil as a cartographer and developed friendships with a group of women who remained close friends and ardent bridge players through to the present. She met Murray Bulger in 1953 and they married at Our Lady Of Perpetual Help, the parish they would come to live in for over 25 years and where they would raise Chris (Lilo); Terri (David Honderich); Carol (Lisa Coates); Stephen (Catherine Lash); and Elizabeth. She maintained loving relationships with sons-in-law Kevin Cuthbertson and Paul Miller and Granby was much loved by: Elle, Clara, Jack; Holly, Rachel; Graham, Aaron, Patrick, Katie, Stephen; Adelaide, Jane; Norah, Erin. Murray suffered a long illness and Jane's conviction was admired by her many friends and family as she devoted herself to his care. Jane continuously pursued her keen passion for painting, music, golf, bridge and her faith. Her unexpected passing leaves a large hole in the lives of those who had the fortune to enjoy her warm friendship and love, but our fond memories will ensure that Jane's spirit will continue to shine. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, November 25.
