SANDUSKY, Donald Hart
In his 92nd year. Passed away on April 29, 2006, at home in his own bed surrounded by family. He was born in Toronto, November 20, 1914, the only child of Emma Hart and Gustav Sandusky. Married to his childhood sweetheart Edith Myrl (nee Phinnemore) for 67 years. He is survived by his children: Irene Lesko (Rick Lesko) and Gus (Nancy Hawley); grandchildren Rene Lesko and Donald (Margaret Gray), Kathleen Sandusky (Brian Panhuyzen), and James Sandusky; step-grandchildren Ester and Eli Bovard; great-grandchildren Kristopher Archer; Josh, Caleb, and Matthew Lesko; Lucas and Calen Panhuyzen.
Donald worked all his life at Dominion Bridge. At 74 years of age he had to climb to the top of the Dome Stadium to personally certify certain structural issues. He was involved in the construction of most of the large building projects in and around Toronto, including the CN Tower, Bank Towers, and the Burlington Skyway, and others.
During the war he volunteered for the Canadian Navy, but was declared an essential worker for war production. In an accident in a munitions factory he suffered an injury that would cause him pain for the rest of his life. He was proud to be a Mason. Honorary Lifetime Member of Remembrance Lodge Number 586.
He enjoyed working, gardening, chicken farming, fishing, and arguing, but family was his first joy. He will be missed but always loved.
Friends may call at the Humphrey Funeral Home - A.W. Miles Chapel, 1403 Bayview Ave. (south of Eglinton Ave. East) on Tuesday, May 2 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service in the chapel on Wednesday, May 3 at 1 o'clock. Interment Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
