Obituary of Margaret Scriven
SCRIVEN, Margaret Clare (MacEachern)
It is with a profound sense of loss that we announce the passing of a loving and caring mother, sister, aunt, niece and friend, Margaret Clare (MacEachern) Scriven, 53, of Toronto, Ontario at Sunnybrook and Women�s College Hospital on Monday, February 13, 2006 after a courageous struggle with breast cancer. Marg was a highly competent, articulate and knowledgeable executive who enjoyed her work tremendously, who treasured her family and friends and lived life to the fullest. At the time of her death, Marg was manager, Organizational Development, Human Resources Branch, Ministry of Training/Education. Born and raised in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Marg was the second youngest daughter of the late Laughlin and Audrey (Lester) MacEachern. A graduate of Sydney Academy, Marg�s undergraduate university years were spent at St. Mary�s University where she was actively involved in student�s council and the university Senate. Marg continued her education in the field of business and human resource management and held many different positions during her career. She taught and developed courses in her area of expertise at the University of Toronto and presented papers at national and international conferences and symposia. She and her daughter, Christina, a second year economics student at Queen�s University, shared a very special bond. Marg was a loving and devoted mother as well as mentor to Christina, who was her pride and joy. She and her three sisters, Lauren (Walter) Furdas, Sydney, Nova Scotia; Linda (John) Simmonds, Orangeville, Ontario; and the late Brenda (Steven) Wickstrom, formerly of Oakfield, Nova Scotia established a unique close relationship in childhood that continued throughout their lives. Marg will be lovingly remembered by her five nephews and one grandniece: Jim (Beatrice) Simmonds, Gagetown, New Brunswick; Dan (Janina) Simmonds, Orangeville, Ontario; Brian Furdas, Halifax, Nova Scotia; Carl Wickstrom, Halifax, Nova Scotia; Robert Wickstrom, Oakfield, Nova Scotia, and Charlotte Mae Simmonds, Orangeville, Ontario.
Marg had a tremendous sense of family and always remained very close to her MacEachern aunts and uncles, including Polly (Joe) Dearborn, South Portland, Maine; Harvey (Clare) MacEachern; and her godmother, Helen MacEachern, all of Sydney, Nova Scotia.
Predeceased by her mother at age 5, and her father at age 20, Marg was also predeceased most recently by her dear sister, Brenda, in September, 2004, her uncle, Donald, in September, 2005 and by her aunt, Ursulina, in December, 2005. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Eglinton Avenue East), from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 16. A celebration of Marg�s life will be held Friday, February 17, 2006 in TRINITY ST. PAUL�S CHURCH, 427 Bloor Street West, Toronto at 11 a.m. with Rev. Hal and Rev. Karen Llewellyn officiating. A reception will follow at the church. Cremation has taken place. A memorial will take place in Nova Scotia at a later date. Marg will be remembered as a strong, peace-loving, sensitive, kind and gentle human being who was known for her generous hospitable nature, her special talent of making everyone in her presence feel important, her positive attitude, her amazing competence, her determination, her supportive spirit, her mentorship and counselling capacity and her zest for living. She was a special person to all who had the pleasure of her friendship and will be sadly missed by everyone whose life she touched.
