John Duras

Obituary of John Francis Duras

DURAS, John Francis Peacefully, in his home, on December 23, 2005, John Francis Duras (JFD) passed into heaven after 79 years on this earth. His loving family and wife of 44 years, Melanie Joan, his six children and 12 grandchildren will miss him at the head of the table smiling and beaming with pride. His children: Marie (Robert), John, Claudine (Chris), Matthew (Veronika), Gregory (Suzanne) and Melanie (Doug) and grandchildren: Andrew, Christina and Allison; Nicole, Ryan and John (Jack); Valentina; Sebastien, Madeleine, and Katelyn; and Annie and Russell, will forever live with his love. He leaves his loved sister, Mary Husnikova in the Czech Republic and will meet his 4 other siblings in heaven. One quickly runs out of adjectives to describe JFDs love and passion for life both in Canada and in the Czech Republic. He was a moral compass for all those around him and stood up for what he believed to be right. He filled his home with family and friends, eloquent toasts, delicious food, and unique championships with a slingshot, ping pong mallot, skis or shuffleboard cue. The animals in his life were many. His pockets were always brimming with treats for the pooches and the cold weather never stopped his tracks to the bird feeders in the cedars at Tetin. His Army Jeep was as well tuned as a Swiss clock to head through the swamp as were the snowmobiles ready for any skiers. His relationship with his family was filled with respect and endless fun, even when his finger was raised to call us into line. Even in his absence, his example will continue to guide the Duras generations for centuries. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Eglinton Avenue East), from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Monday, December 26th. Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 27th in OUR LADY OF PERPETUAL HELP CHURCH, 78 Clifton Road, Toronto M4T 2G2. If desired, donations may be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church.
