Obituary of Keith Morrison Kerns

KERNS, Keith Morrison Passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 10, 2005 at the Hees Veteran Unit at Sunnybrook & Women�s Health Sciences Centre in his 91st year. Predeceased by his three sisters, Sylvia (Carrie), Dorothy (Teasdale) and Ellen (Davis) and two brothers, Fred and Stanley. Survived by niece Gail and nephews Garry and Brian. He was born in Hamilton, Ontario and grew up along the waterfront in Burlington. He moved to Toronto and remained in his East York bungalow for over 50 years. Keith served in the R.C.A.F. as a Navigator on the Lancaster bomber during the European operations of W.W. II. After the war, he was employed by the Public Health Department as a statistician for the Ontario Government until he retired in 1974. He was a unique individual with varied interests including reciting poetry, weaving on his loom, playing tennis and chess and preserving fruits from his garden. He travelled to many countries, including Russia and Australia, to attend world chess championships. Many thanks to all the staff at the Hees Unit "L� Wing who looked after Keith for the past six years. Their kindness and thoughtfulness will always be treasured. His cremated remains will be interred in the family plot at Greenwood Cemetery, Burlington. A graveside ceremony with family and friends will be held in the Spring.
