Obituary of Nancy Moore
MOORE, Nancy Claire (nee Taylor)
1923 - 2012
Passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 6, 2012, in Toronto at the age 89. Predeceased by her parents, Kathleen and Bruce Taylor of Montreal; her husband, Frederick (Bun) Moore; and her sister, Elizabeth Evans, also of Montreal.
Nancy was born in Montreal and educated at Trafalgar School and McGill University, receiving a BA in 1944. She married and, in 1957, with two small children and another on the way, she and Bun built a cottage on Lac des Iles in the Laurentians. Summers were always spent at the cottage in Quebec, even after the family was transferred to southern California in 1964. Many wonderful years transpired in California. Following the death of her beloved husband in 1970, Nancy and the children moved back to Canada. Nancy was an accomplished downhill and cross-country skier, played a good game of tennis and created the most beautiful quilts and knitted sweaters. She had a keen intellect, and a strong and independent spirit that carried her through many challenges, including several cross-country ski marathons in Quebec. Nancy loved to take long walks and canoe rides, enjoy a good book on the lakeside porch, and listen to classical music.
She leaves her daughter, Sheila (Eric Cousineau); son, Stephen (Geraldine Thornton); and daughter, Barb (Angus McKinnon) all of Toronto. Left to remember their grandmother are Brian, Sara, and Emma Cousineau; Colin, Raeanne, and Richard Moore; and Andrew, Stuart, and Cameron McKinnon.
The family wishes to thank the staff at 921 Millwood, Toronto, for the years of care and nurturing given to Nancy, and to friends for words of support and condolence. Cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held in Quebec at a later date when her ashes will be placed at the cottage overlooking Lac des Iles. Donations in Nancy's memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
