Obituary of Donald Clayton Scott

Donald Clayton Scott Died on November 3, 2005 of cancer in his 78th year. Don was born at Hotel Dieu and grew up in Windsor. He attended the old Patterson Collegiate where he was elected Head Boy. He was captain of the football team under coach Al Newman and twice was named to the All -City basketball team. An outstanding student, he won the Sir Arthur Currie Memorial Scholarship awarded by the University of Western Ontario for excellence in academics and athletics. At Western, he played both football and basketball with the Western Mustangs and graduated with a degree in Honours Business Administration. After graduation he joined the Toronto Argonauts where he played from 1949 to 1951. In 1950 he was a member of the Argo team that won the Grey Cup in the infamous "mud bowl� game. The 1950 Argos was named the "Team of the Half-Century.� He joined Clarkson Gordon (later became Ernst & Young) in 1949 from which he retired in 1987 after spending the last 8 years as Chairman and C.E.O. of that firm. In 1990 he was asked by the Ontario government to assist them in setting up the Ontario Insurance Commission and he served as Commissioner of that organization for three years. He was active in many charitable activities and served on the boards of a number of companies and organizations including Windsor Raceway, which he joined for a couple of years at Tom Jay�s request, as he was an avid owner and breeder of standard bred race horses. He is loved and missed by his wife, Eilleen, his children and grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Eglinton Avenue East), from 7-9pm on Thursday, November 10th, 2005. The family invites all who knew Don to a memorial service on Friday, November 11th , 2005, at 1:30pm, at Lawrence Park Community Church, 2189 Bayview Ave, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be to the charity of your choice or to Sunnybrook Hospital Foundation for all the wonderful care Don received over the past few years.
