Obituary of Jean Hart
HART, Jean (nee Jackman)
Suddenly and with deep sadness, we mark the death of Jean Hart, surrounded by her family, at Sunnybrook Hospital, Toronto on Friday, August 26, 2005 in her eighty-third year. This month she celebrated with her husband, George, sixty-three years of marriage. Twelve years ago she retired as librarian at Bayview Glen School, which named the school library for her. In her retirement she enjoyed painting with watercolours and showed a fine sense of tone. Always her home and her children absorbed much of her thoughts wherever she lived, in Charlottetown, Pictou, Halifax, Ottawa, Montreal and Toronto. She lived the last thirty-three years in Leaside. She made many friends at church, at Bayview Glen, at the health club, in the painting group, and in the neighbourhood. She leaves to mourn her husband, her six children and seven grandchildren, her sisters, Nan Herman, of London, Ontario, and Helen Fitzsimon, of Weybridge, Surrey, England. Her children are Charles (Colin), of London, England; Gwendolyn Brown (Patrick), of Mississauga; Deborah Elder (Barry), of Guelph; Alan (Catherine), of Vancouver and Seattle; Jonathan (Mary), of Edmonton; and Jennifer of Toronto, and an honourary daughter, Lynn Harris. Her grandchildren are Sarah, Matthew, Rachel and Gillian Elder, Brandon Hart, and James and Julia Hart. Jean was the daughter of Charles Henry Jackman, formerly of Harrogate, England, and of Helen Hammond Fiske, of Lockeport, Nova Scotia, and sister of Frances, Dorothy, Marion and Barbara, all of whom predeceased her. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Eglinton Avenue East), from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, August 30. A service of celebration will be held at 11 oclock on Wednesday, August 31 in ST. CUTHBERTS ANGLICAN CHURCH, 1399 Bayview Avenue, Toronto. Donations in memory of Jean may be made to The Sunnybrook Hospital Foundation, (Attn: Stroke Unit), 2075 Bayview Avenue, Toronto, M4N 3M5.
