Obituary of Douglas Campbell
Douglas Belsey Campbell
Dr. Douglas Campbell died on Monday, August 27, 2012 at the age of 91, surrounded by members of his loving family. He is survived by his beloved partner and wife of 62 years, Mary Scott Campbell, and their six children: Douglas Scott, Catherine Frances, Margaret Jean, Virginia Mary, Christine Evelyn, Peter William and their partners Brian, Carri and Lisa. Douglas held a very special place in his heart and life for his six grandchildren: Alison, Douglas, Mary Lin, John, Tracy and Peter. Douglas grew up in Toronto and attended Parkdale Collegiate. Upon graduating from the University of Toronto, he spent time in the army, followed by post-graduate work in Toronto and London, England. He then expanded his practice to become the medical director of several life insurance companies. Douglas' interests and passions were diverse. His love of nature was reflected in his exploration of Toronto's ravines, trails and waterfront, mycology, bird watching and more than 30 summers at Island 950 in Temagami. He had a deep appreciation of and was an ardent supporter of the Canadian Opera Company, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and the National Ballet of Canada. He had a keen and intelligent sense of humour. Above all, he was dedicated to the well being and happiness of his family. Funeral service will be held in the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES CHAPEL LIMITED, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) on Friday, August 31 at 1:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Opera Company at 416-847-4949 or coc.ca.
