Obituary of Francis Lace
LACE, Francis Dwyer (Frank)
Passed away in Toronto on April 29, 2005 in his 94th year. Survived by his wife of over 65 years Barbara (Caldwell); son Roger (Pat); daughter Cathy (Hugh Mackenzie); and brother-in-law Robert Grant. Proud grandfather of Joseph, George, Thomas and William Lace; and Alyssa, Owen and Gwyneth Mackenzie. Predeceased by his sister Marion Grant. Following graduation from Upper Canada College in 1928 and Royal Military College, Kingston in 1932, Frank entered the investment business. He was mobilized in September, 1939 proceeding overseas in January, 1940. He commanded the 15th Field Regiment R.C.A. in 4th Division, 13th
Field Regiment R.C.A. in 3rd Division, became G.S.O.1 to General Brownfield, and finally was made C.R.A. 2nd Canadian Division in Holland. He was awarded the DSO, the OBE and ED, and Mentioned in Despatches, ending his service with the rank of Brigadier General. After the war, he returned to the investment business where he thrived for over 45 years, retiring as an Honorary Director of RBC DS. He was also active in many church and community activities, including acting as a trustee for the Toronto Western Hospital and Toronto General Hospital for many years. The family would like to thank Frank�s wonderful caregivers over the recent months: Amy, Cynthia and Lala. Special thanks to Sonia for all her care and companionship for the last several years. The family would also like to thank the caring staff of Central Park Lodge, Thorncliffe Park. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 4 at 2 p.m. at Christ Church Deer Park, 1570 Yonge Street, Toronto, followed by a reception at the church. Private cremation and interment at Mount Pleasant Cemetery at a later date. Donations to the Toronto General & Western Hospital Foundation, R.
