Obituary of Wilfred Powell

POWELL, Wilfred (November 22, 1910 - January 31, 2005) Wilf died at Sunnybrook Medical Centre in Toronto, surrounded by and held in the love of his family members, his spirit at peace. He is survived by his beloved wife June; three sons Keith, David and Clive, their spouses and partners Barbara Powell, Anne Powell, Linda Powell and Sharon Keane; and grandchildren Bronwen, Meghan, Siobhan, Lara, Shannon and Morgan, all of whom he adored. Wilf was born in Llanelli, Wales. He immigrated to Canada at age 14 where he earned his ATCM in piano at age 17. He served on the faculty of the Royal Conservatory of Music of Toronto for 67 years as a teacher and examiner. He also served as distinguished adjudicator at music festivals, and as choir leader and organist at several churches in the Toronto area. He was rightly proud of an accomplished and respected career in music. A passionate, considerate man, Wilf touched and inspired many more people than his humble spirit would have him know. His remarkable intellect, warmth and caring will be remembered forever. Wilf�s life will be celebrated at a funeral service on Friday, February 4th at 2 p.m. at NORTHLEA UNITED CHURCH, 125 Brentcliffe Road, Leaside Toronto. Visitations with family at Humphrey Funeral Home, 1403 Bayview Avenue, Toronto 416-487-4523, on Thursday, February 3rd from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family is establishing a scholarship at the Royal Conservatory of Music of Toronto.
