Obituary of Donald Moss Finlayson

FINLAYSON, Donald Moss - M.D., B.Sc., F.R.C.P.(C), F.A.C.P. On January 26, 2005 Don peacefully passed away surrounded by his family, at St. Michael�s Hospital, in his 82nd year. Beloved husband of Anna and much loved father of Elizabeth (Bruce Corneil), Carol Baier, Mary Jane (Bill Droine), Donald and Margaret (Harry Rosenfeld). Proud grandfather of Ian, Heather, Andrew, Michael, Sarah, Sonia, Ellen and Eric, and great-grandfather of Derek. Predeceased by sister Joyce Simmons, fondly remembered by brother Bill Finlayson (Dodie) and brother-in-law Ed Simmons (Juanita). Don, son of Dr. Donald and Marjorie Finlayson, grew up in Ripley, Ontario. In 1940 the family moved to Toronto, but he maintained close ties to the area through their cottage at Bruce Beach. The cottage held a special place in his heart, and gave him great joy over the years that he shared with his family and friends. He graduated from medical school at the University of Toronto in 1946 and was certified as a specialist in Internal Medicine in 1952. He was on the staff of Toronto General Hospital (1952-1954), St. Michael�s Hospital, where he was also an assistant professor of medicine (1954-1969), and the North York General Hospital (1969-1990). The care at St. Michael�s was compassionate, respectful and extremely professional. The family extends special thanks to Dr. Robert Chen, ICU nurses Leonard and Lucy, and spiritual guidance by the Reverend Peter Thompson. Visitation at EGLINTON ST. GEORGE�S UNITED CHURCH (35 Lytton Boulevard) from 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 29, 2005, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow at Eglinton St. George�s United Church. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Michael�s Hospital or North York General Hospital would be appreciated.
