Obituary of John Sadler

SADLER, John Robert Sterling P.Eng. With great sadness, the family of John Robert Sterling Sadler announces his passing on January 1, 2005, at his home in Toronto. Dad will be dearly missed by his wife of 44 years, Joan (nee Beck), his children Sean (Sylvia), Stewart (Nardos) and Shannon, and his grandchildren Jack, Nicole, Max and Quinn. Dad was born June 8, 1935 in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, to parents Gladys and Craig. Joining us in remembering Dad are: his sister Florence Anderson (Don) and their family, his brother-in-law Brian Beck (Jan) and their family, his many surviving cousins and their families, May Haaland and her family, Phyllis and John Asay and their family, and his many dear friends. Dad obtained a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan in 1957. Dad very much enjoyed his career and cherished the good friends he met along the way at: A.W. Homme Limited, Gulf Canada, Crown Investments Corp. of Saskatchewan, Saskatchewan Oil & Gas Corporation, Manitoba Oil & Gas Corporation, SaskEnergy Inc., and with his own consulting business. What we will remember most about Dad is his gentle "Prairie soul; his love and respect for nature; his appreciation of literature; his love of food and cooking; his modesty and humility; his love of people and his interest and respect for our differing cultures; his passion for curling, golf, baseball and CFL football; and his love and commitment to his family, friends and community. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to our many kind, supportive friends and to the many extraordinary doctors, nurses and other health care professionals who cared for Dad at Sunnybrook and Womens College Health Sciences Centre, Toronto Sunnybrook Regional Cancer Centre, The Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care, North York Community Care Access Centre and Metro Ambulance. Dad has asked us to celebrate his life with a traditional Irish wake. We invite friends and family to join in this celebration to be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at his home (5 Concorde Place, Toronto) on Sunday, January 16, 2005. Dad has been cremated and a private family interment service will follow. If desired, donations to the Sunnybrook and Womens Foundation, C3 Oncology Unit or Toronto Sunnybrook Regional Cancer Centre, 2075 Bayview Avenue, Toronto, Ontario M4N 3M5 (416-480-4483) or to The Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care, 600 University Avenue, Suite #208, Toronto, Ontario M5G 1X5 (416-586-8594) would be appreciated.
