Verna and Family, we are so very sorry for your loss, and wish words were enough. A dearer, sweeter soul than John would be difficult to find. Our thoughts are with you during this difficult time. Lesley Johnson and Family

Heartfelt condolences to the family. Although I only met John on several occasions, I found him to be a very warm and considerate man. My heart goes out to the family at this difficult time.

I was a classmate and friend of John Jr. I am in the GTA for only a few days. I was struck by the irony that I should be reading The Toronto Star for the first time in decades and should come across the obituary. Right now, I am tired and jet-lagged, but I cannot sleep until I write something. I am saddened greatly to learn of Mr. Gibson's death. (I cannot imagine referring to him by his first name. Due to the imposing bearing that he commanded in person, he was always MISTER Gibson to me.) I remember him as a man of style, character and exquisite good taste. I recall him explaining the purpose of serifs in typefaces as he drove John Jr. and me downtown while we were bumming a lift to university classes. Although I haven't seen it in maybe thirty-five years, I can vividly recall a large abstract expressionist canvas that he created, in the style of Franz Kline, with flowing swatches of black and red acrylic paint. My sincere condolences to the family on the loss of this fine man. Rob Onodera Caselfranco Veneto, Italia

My sincerest condolences to Mrs. Gibson and her family on the passing of John. I first met John when he came to Chester Village and he lit up the room as soon as he entered. He had such a beautiful smile, one that I will never forget as it leaves an imprint on your heart. He was such a pleasure to be around and we will greatly miss seeing him in the garden with his beautiful wife. May you rest in eternal peace, God Bless you.
