Dear Andrew, Katherine and the Hallisey family. My deepest sympathies on the loss of such a remarkable man. At your wedding it was obvious that Richard had a passion and zest for life and lived each day to the fullest. As I read his obituary, I was even more in awe of his many accomplishments and success in business, but also in his personal life. May you cherish the memories of shared family time.

To the Hallisey Family-it is with much sorry that I have to write this. I had the previlege of working with Rick for many decades at First Marathon and have many many fond memories of our professional dealings and personal interactions. He was one of the best minds in our industry but more importantly he was a quality individual. I learned much from Rick over the decades and I always felt comfortable that as my partner he could be relied on. His professional talents were in many ways unique and his warmth and humour was always appreciated. He influenced my career in a very positive way and helped me achieve the modicum of successes that I was able to achieve with our clients. I will not forget Rick nor will many others. I wish you all well during this difficult time. All the best, Brian Vyner

I read with shock and sadness the notice of Richard's untimely passing. My sincere condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues on their loss. As a fellow alumnus of the UBC Engineering class of 1963 (Metalllurgical), I had been aware of Richard's then reputation as somewhat of an "original" who stood out from the worker-bee type majority in that large cohort of aspiring engineers, but we had little if any contact. My much later intersections with him however, reflected to a "T" the notice's characterization of his personality and approach to life. In the early 1990's I was working in industry in South Western Ontario and, out of the blue, recieved a phone call from Colin Watson, also a 1963 Engineering alumnus, whom I had known fairly well at that time, and who had become well known in the financial press through his role at Rogers Cable. He invited me for lunch with Richard and himself - ostensibly to talk about old times, etc. I showed up at the designated, virtually empty, luncheon club at the appointed time, and shortly thereafter Richard arrived. We went through the self-introductory "dog circling" exerscise necessitated by the circumstances - there being no "Google" scouting intellegence available. In the "what have you been up to" phase of that circling ritual, Richard, with just the hint of a grin and that twinkle in his eye described himself as having given up on engineering some time back and becoming " a stockbroker" - a most modest understatement of his role as one of the prinicpals of a the then very successful and highly influental independent investment bank - First Marathon Securities. Over the course of the next several years, until my retitrement and relocation back to the West Coast, Richard kept in touch, and was unstinting in his freely offered, creative, and useful insights and advice as to how one might better financially structure my Company to cope with, and capitalize on, the troubled circumstances in its industry sector. As well, he was most generous with his, and his firm's peoples', time and hospitality. It was a privilege and a pleasure for me to have interacted with him. He will be missed. Robert J.
