Obituary of Margaret McEwen
Formerly of Toronto, Margaret passed away peacefully at St. Joseph's Health Centre in Guelph on Thursday July 7, 2011 at the age of 89. A longtime resident of Lawrence Park and Don Mills, Margaret was born in Aylmer, and educated at Alma College, St. Thomas and the University of Toronto, where she received her B.Sc.(Nursing) in 1960. A caring, compassionate, gracious person, she devoted her life to a career of service, working with the Victorian Order of Nurses, and Easter Seal Society. Following retirement in 1987, she continued to work as a volunteer at Sunnybrook Hospital and the Royal Ontario Museum until disability limited her activities. Marg is lovingly remembered by her sister, Betty-Jane and brother-in-law, John Melvin (Surrey), their children Marni and Stuart; extended family Peter and Karin Tremaine (Guelph), Scott and Marilyn Tremaine (Princeton), Nancy Hood and Lou Carmichael (Toronto); their children; many close friends; and former colleagues and patients. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 13. A funeral service will follow in the chapel at 1 o'clock. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to The Alzheimer's Society of Canada, 20 Eglinton Ave. West, Suite # 1200, Toronto M4R 1K8 or The Easter Seal Society, 1185 Eglinton Ave. East, Suite # 800, Toronto M3C 3C6.
