From a very early age on holidays in Manchester I can recall Aunty Hildegarde's nature: constant, decent and goodhearted. Everyone will quickly recognise these characteristics, but there is something more profound that has stayed with us. From then to now she has for you, and for us, always been a ground bass, a background hum, of contentedness and stability. That is why I am proud to say that she was my family's friend in the true sense. Modern English, friend, from Old English, freond, from freon, to love. We are here always.
