We were sad to hear of Betty's passing. When we went to Kimbourne Park United Church the first time of about 25 years ago, she was one of the people we meet early who made us feel welcomed. Our daugthers always called Betty "meme", they liked her easyness to be around her. I enjoyed the leadership she showed at bazaar time, - oh her Pecan shortbreads have been missed!!! - I'll always remember Betty as a woman, who loved life, adored her family and friends. I know that her last years were not as fitting for the woman she had been, I'll always remember her smile and her kindness. We are very sorry for your loss, Lucie, Richard, Emilie and Zoée Johnson

To the Mackie family and Betty's many friends: I can only echo the accurate and heartfelt memories and acknowledgements written by Greg Morrow, Cathy Bone and Jim Short. I too was impressed and influenced by Betty's special gifts and wisdom while I was a member of Kimbourne Park United Church and a resident of East York/east Toronto. She had an almost Zen-like presence; a kind of joyful peacefulness... difficult to describe but unmistakable whenever I was with her. What really takes me aback is the fact I was driving past her old apartment building at Bay and Charles Streets, and thought of Betty for the first time in years... that was June 2nd, the day before she passed away. The Spirit is with us and among us and never ceases to amaze. May the beautiful person who was Betty Mackie be remembered long into the future.

I am sorry to hear about the passing of Betty. I first met Betty, when Suzanne & I started attending Kimbourne Park United Church, with our two children, in the Fall of 1986. She was an established member of the congregation who took it upon herself to make us feel welcome. Both Suzanne & I enjoyed our interaction with Betty over the years and particularly loved her Almond Shortbread Cookies which she contributed to the annual Church Bazaar Cafe, for many years. I also worked with Betty on the Church Board & various Church Committees for many years and always enjoyed her thoughtful contributions to our discussions and her strong faith base. Also her sense of humour helped make the meetings enjoyable. It was a great pleasure to have known Betty who was also very gracious in her approach to the world, as I witnessed during our time together at Kimbourne Park. I will miss Betty but have many fond memories to hold when I think of her. May God be with you during your time of grief. Greg Morrow

My heartfelt condolences to Rose and family. My mom (Iris Allan) and Betty met in Grade 3 and remained lifelong friends .Betty was like a member of our family. As a child I always looked forward to her visits with us in Belleville. We called her auntie. As the years went by,Betty continued to be an important part of our family. She was always included for all of my mom and dad`s celebrations and milestones through the years. The last function she attended was a few years ago at my dad`s(Jim)90th birthday party at the Royal York. She looked wonderful and she still had those deep dimples and the gleam in her eye.She was so proud of her Scottish heritage as was my dad.I spoke to Betty in 2007 after sending her photos of my son Chris`s wedding. In 2008 my husband and I moved to Toronto to the same building that Betty had lived in for more than 25 years. My hope was to be able to be closer to her and be able to watch over her as she was getting on in years.Sadly, failing health forced her to leave her apartment a few months before we moved in. She was a wonderful lady with a beautiful spirit. Rest in peace dear sweet Betty.I will never forget you.

In memory and fondness of Betty. To her family...we were in ministry at Kimbourne Park United church from 1985-1992 when Betty was an active member, a revered elder, a kind and wise leader in the faith community. Betty was gentle, honest and diplomatic in her participation of the ministries she offered herself to. She was Kind to Jim and I when we were birthing and raising our three young children, asking about them often, speaking to them with warmth and respect, and encouraging us in our parenting. She hosted us up at the beloved country home and it is a memory that lingers sweet and elegant in our minds. Betty stands tall in our esteem. Her embracing of Kimbourne's visitng family from Swaziland (Rose, Ciscoe, and their three lovely boys)was a model of both hospitality and a reminder of the large village of people it takes to raise children.God bless you who had Betty in your family circle, and we give thanks for her well lived and loving life. In Peace, Cathy Bone and Rev. Jim Short
