Obituary of Derrick Allaway

Derrick Allaway (nee Gilbert) Born December 4, 1924, Glossop, Derbyshire, England - Died August 4, 2012, Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto. It is with the greatest sadness and heavy hearts that we mourn the passing of Derrick Allaway, an unsung war hero who, at 19 years, of age was wounded on the French beaches of Normandy during WWII, who was a best friend, a loving father, father-in-law, granddad, great-granddad and the beloved husband of the late Isabella May Allaway, who passed away from Alzheimer's on February 7, 2012. He was a man who gave us love, loyalty, trust and joy. He will always be by our side. Derrick Allaway leaves behind: his daughters Diana and Elizabeth, his son-in-law (son to him) John, his grandchildren Erin, Christopher, Ryan, Paul, Mihaela, Luanne, his great-grandchildren Ethan, Benjamin, Noah and Naomi, his extended family Patricia, Victor, Olivia, Andrew, Dan and Brenda, and his true friend and PAL, his sweet and gentle four-legged MOLLY. Our sincere appreciation to all Wellesley Central Place staff on 3 West, all PSW's, nurses, residents and their families for their support. A most special thank you to Winnie and Precy. Dr. Retnakaran, Celia Fredericks and Simone at Mount Sinai Hospital Leadership Centre for Diabetes - we could not have made it without you. To our dear family friend, David Kopman, a very special "thank you" for being with us and helping us over all the years. GOD BLESS DAD, "Popsie," "The Old Boy," and, as Mum called him, "Grumps." GOD SPEED. A funeral service will be held in the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES CHAPEL LIMITED, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) on Thursday, August 9, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, where Derrick will join his darling wife Isabella May. If desired, memorial donations in Derrick's memory may be made to Leadership Sinai Centre for Diabetes, Mount Sinai Hospital, 60 Murray Street, Suite L5-039, Toronto M5T 3L9.
