Obituary of Zigrida Altraks

ALTRAKS, Dr. Zigrida Livija Born February 23, 1913, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2011 at the age of 98. Predeceased by her loving husband Arturs. Zigrida is survived by her son, Juris. Zigrida, born in Riga, Latvia, where she graduated from the Faculty of Dentistry in 1939. In 1944, Zigrida and her family fled imminent Soviet occupation. Her family began a new life in Sweden, where Zigrida practiced dentistry from 1945 to 1950. In January 1951 Zigrida and her family immigrated to Canada and in 1955 began her recertification as a dentist. After graduating from the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Toronto in 1958, Zigrida practiced dentistry in Toronto until retirement in 1983. Her many hobbies and interests included her sorority Imeria, opera, symphonies, travelling and the cottage. Her son wishes to extend thanks to the staff at the Wexford Residence, who made her life so much better in the past few years. Zigrida is sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her son, and her many close friends. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of funeral service in the chapel at 11 o'clock.
