Obituary of William Thorn

William (BILL) Thomas Thorn January 25, 1921 - March 24, 2011 (World War II Veteran - Royal Canadian Air Force, Coastal Command) Bill passed away peacefully surrounded by family, at his home of fifty-eight years, in his ninety-first year. Predeceased by wife Helen after forty-three years of marriage, as well as by daughter Beverly Cowan. Bill will be missed immeasurably by children Russell (Leslie) Thorn and Diane (David) Lowater, grandchildren Amanda (Michael) Spence and Vanessa Cowan, and great-grandchild Wesley Spence who arrived three and a half weeks early to meet his "Poppa." A co-founder and owner of Roto-Tone Gravure for almost twenty-five years, Bill was a forty-five year member and past President of the Leaside Lawn Bowling Club and a past member of the Leaside Curling Club. Never afraid to learn new things, Bill took up the organ at age fifty-five and computers at age seventy-one. Superlative dancer, handyman extraordinaire, and dog enthusiast, Bill was exceedingly generous of spirit and love with family, friends and neighbours. Visitation will be held at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) on Wednesday, April 6, 2011 from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service in the chapel at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Bill would be honoured if you would make a donation in his name to the Sunnybrook Foundation directed to the following funds: The Schulich Heart Centre, The Veterans Centre or The Breast Cancer Research Centre.
