Dear Karen, Kathryn, Brian, and Christine: I was deeply saddened to hear of your mother’s passing. She was a great lady. I’m glad that my mother and yours were such great friends. I’ll remember our recent visits with her when Geoff and Clare came to visit from England and also at her birthday parties with lots of food. I remember the good old days when we were much younger and our families would spend time together visiting each other at one home or the other. It was always a good time and everyone was full of laughter. It was a great way to spend holidays around Christmas and other special occasions. Grace and I just returned from Weyburn where we went to explore the family legacy. People that we “bumped into” remembered Chan family members and the great contribution they made to the town. There’s much history there that we can all feel a part of. Our prayers are with you at this difficult time. We will remember your mother fondly. Ian.

Dear Karen, Kathy, Brian and Christine I was very sad to learn of your mother’s passing. It has been such a tough time for all of us recently. I was so glad that I had the chance to visit with her two weeks ago. It meant a lot to me and I hope it was some comfort to her. We talked about my mom and what she was like, and how stubborn she was. How I wished we could have talked for a long time about the old days. I know that a high point for my mom when she stayed with us in Kansas was her weekly call to Jean, which she was not going to miss just because she was so far away. Now they are together and enjoying each other’s company and I hope that offers you some of the comfort that it provides for me. I have such fond memories of summers that I spent with the four of you at your dad’s store on Spencer. The more I think about those times and all the time I spent with your mom, the more truly great memories come flooding back. She was a great lady. It is interesting what we remember first. Among my best memories is when your mom would cook my favorite dish “Jai”. To this day I cannot replicate it. I also recall the times when I would go back with you to your house on Harvey. Your dad would call a cab and we would all pile into the back seat. Of course I have no recollection of how I got home from there, I just remember the togetherness of cramming into that cab. The more I think about it the more pleasant times I remember. As we all have learned in the past months, there is great pain with such a loss, but in the memories we can find peace and some happiness. My thoughts are with you all this weekend and I will be there in spirit. Much love, Marci
