My sincere condolences to the family on the passing of Ken Scott. I worked with Ken at FP Conferences and I have many wonderful memories from that time which ranged from meeting Pierre Trudeau to hosting a trade mission to Brussels with Jean Chretien. I would like to share a few about Ken with you. On the morning of each conference Ken would always ask me if I had slept well that night and when I would reply not a wink, he would smile, relax and say that in that case he knew the day would be successful. Also, when we were in Brussels we were called out of the conference because our hotel had won the race for the first Beaujolais of the season and the hotel had prepared a magnificent spread to celebrate and so there we were sipping Beaujolais Nouveau well before noon as the conference continued without us. Ken was first and foremost a gentleman and he loved and embraced all those things that make life a joy. I am grateful that I had the opportunity to re-connect with Ken a few years ago through the Maclean-Hunter QCC club and it was an inspiration to see that he remained youthful in his spirit. May his spirit continue to shine brightly through those he touched in his life.

I was saddened to read of Ken's death. My sincerest condolences to his family.... Ken was my "first boss" when I arrived at The Financial Post in the mid-seventies as a fledgling staffer in FP Conferences. I continue to be in his debt for the enormous professional education I gained during my time there — with Ken, and with Orietta Minatel and Rose Doyle. Heady times, important conferences, great challenges and successes, a close-knit group of colleagues within The Post... And always Ken's warmth, gentle persuasion, boundless enthusiasm as he secured top speaker after top speaker... And always, that group toast he made at the end of each successful conference. "Well done, Everyone!" Our turn to say: "Well done, Mr. Scott!"

i got to know Ken during the trip to New Zealand when i was best man for Peter Woolley marrying Jennifer Thoman in Nelson. He was slightly gimpy at the time (before a knee replacement) but the good fun and humour gurgled from him, though he was a few feet behind. We had pub lunches, cocktails and more elegant soirees - each enhanced by the quiet charm and dignity of Mr. Ken. He was more than a gentle man, he was someone we wanted to hang out with. Au revoir Sir Scott, you have done us so well.

From Neville Nankivell in Ottawa I have fond memories of my years with Ken at the Financial Post in Toronto when he headed up our successful FP Conferences Division. His charm and contacts enabled him to attract top speakers from Canada and around the world. This remarkable mix of government, business, labour, and other institutional leaders and analysts gave FP conferences a high, newsworthy profile. Ken kept in contact with many of the speakers and delegates for years afterwards. They were like an extended family to him. Behind the scenes, I shared lots of laughs with Ken, and at other times personal grief over the loss of loved ones and friends. We also shared a passion for rugby, and my wife Peggy shared with him a love of the Toronto Symphony. We will miss a fine man and admired colleague whose work contributed greatly to informed debate on the pressing public policy issues of the day. Peggy and I extend our sympathies to his companion and family.

A true gentleman of charm and good humour. I worked with Ken and was lucky enough to have been a friend who occasionally met him at the pub for lunch. He will be sadly missed but well remembered.

To Nancy and Ken's family, Ann and I extend our heartfelt sympathy at this difficult time. As you know, I first met Ken within a week or two of his stepping off the boat when he entered Canada. We shared a boarding house soon after that, which had an interesting reputation to say the least, and Ken was best man at our wedding in 1957. I'll always remember him with fondness and I don't think he ever said a bad word about anyone. Even though we weren't close in these last few years I will always miss him. Our thoughts are with you. Tony and Ann
