We lived beside Edna for close to 14 years and consider ourselves very lucky to have known her. She was a wonderful neighbour and good friend to my husband and I. It was a sad day when she had to give up her family home of some 80 odd years. I first realized Edna was special when she invited me in to her home and pointed out the geraniums that were in full bloom on her windowsill. These same geraniums had been given to her mother many years before and under Edna's careful watch, they continued to grow and flourish. Edna was very talented with many interests. I can still see the beautiful pastel paiting painting she had over her couch. She was an avid photographer - the b/w shot with her neice playing with pots and pans was amongst her favourite. She did needlepoint, gardening, knitting, she knew about bees, the galaxy, science, and much, much more. We spent many fun afternoons discussing antiques and stories of her growing up with her brother and sisters. Our street was never the same after Edna left. She regalled us with stories about way back, when our backyards were nothing but apple and pear orchards. We looked forward to visiting on Christmas Day to share a wee dram of apricot brandy with her. In winter, we would split chicken pot pies, and Tim would race across the lawn with her share, piping hot for her to enjoy. Those were the good old days! We have so many happy memories of our dear Edna. As mentioned above and so nicely put, she was quiet. This was especially so in the last few years but she didn't miss a thing. And she definitely had a sweet tooth. Her shopping list always included Lyall's cane syrup, brown sugar, raisins, and cookies. It was terribly sad for us when she moved away to Burlington. We were not able to see her as much as we would have liked but still kept in touch from time to time. Whenever we go for fish and chips we think of Edna. It was our favourite outing. She always marvelled at how they were able to deliver the food to the table piping hot! Rest in peace Edna. Love Judy and Tim Cooper

We will remember the quiet little lady who shared a table at mealtimes with our mother/mother in law at Sunrise Assisted Living. Edna Cartwright was a great observer and noticed everything. She was very interested in our family. Edna would share the activities of her nieces and nephews when she received letters and calls from them. We enjoyed the stories about her life in England and Toronto. She was very interested in the Royal Family and shared many interesting anecdotes. Edna loved jelly beans and Crullers from Tim Horton's were always a special treat. In her room, Edna loved her treasures and shared stories about the framed hand painted Christmas cards because she knew we loved dogs. Her room had a big window that allowed her to watch the birds and squirrels outside. We enjoyed our friendship with Edna and felt privileged to know her. We will never forget her and we will miss her. Willow & Ron
