Obituary of George Cobban

George Douglas Cobban 1925 - 2011 George passed away peacefully on the morning of January 21, 2011. Predeceased by his loving wife Peggy, and his brothers Don and Jack, George leaves his daughters Candice (married to David Hill) and Nancy (married to Allan Walkinshaw), his granddaughter Olivia Hill, his step-granddaughter Lesley Hill and his dear friend Tonie Bateman. Known as "Cobby" in his youth, George grew up in Toronto and proudly served in both the RCAF and the Army. His business career began at Cochrane Dunlop Hardware. In mid-life, he fulfilled his dream of becoming an investment advisor, achieving success with Pitfield MacKay Ross (later RBC Dominion Securities). In recognition of his many years of community service, George was elected President of both The Young Men's Canadian Club and the Board of Trade Club. In 1947, he married his sweetheart, Peggy MacMillan. Together they created a loving and caring home for Candy and Nancy. Sadly, early in George's retirement, Peggy passed away. His zest for life, however, still allowed him to pursue his many passions - golf, curling, travel and a good game of gin or blackjack. George's enthusiasm for life remains an inspiration for his family and friends. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. on Wednesday, January 26. A service will be held on Thursday, January 27 at 11 o'clock in the chapel. If desired, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of your choice. Condolences and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.
