I was saddened to read of the passing of Bill, a man who treated all of us as an extended family. In the years I worked with and knew Bill, his unfailing humour, energy and dedication to excellence was an inspiration to all. No one ever left meeting Bill without feeling refreshed. While nothing can replace a father, husband and friend who has gone on so early in life, we can all take comfort in knowing he gave life everything he had. Heartfelt sympathy to all his family. Dear Wendy and family I knew Bill as a friend and worked with Bill as a client for many years. He was a real gentleman and a trusted adviser. We began a regular practice just a couple of years back of having sushi lunches at a spot just down the road from Bill's office. We would first solve the problems of the world and then be a sounding board for each other on issues of family and career. Bill always talked about recent or planned family vacations, school or sports activities his children were involved in. He was thoughtful, honest and I will greatly miss his friendship and wise counsel going forward. Deepest Sympathy, Rob Breckon

Dear Wendy, Graham, Hannah and Ryan. Deepest sympathy on the loss of Bill. He was an man of many talents and admirable qualities and will be missed by all. Working with Bill was a highlight of my career, and I looked forward to our annual/bi-annual reunions with much anticipation. In business or at leisure, Bill was an engaging personality - arms flailing around, eyes twinkling and an energy and joy for life that was truly infectious. He was very proud of his family, and all conversations quickly led to an update of the latest exploits of Wendy and the kids - arms flailing more vigorously and eyes twinkling more brightly than ever. In the past 20 years, I cannot think of a time when I did not thoroughly enjoy his company. While he has left us much too soon, memories of Bill will always bring a smile and brighten our days for many years to come. It was a privilege to have known Bill and called him friend. Thankyou for sharing him with us. Best Wishes David Scott

I was saddened to read Bill's obituary in the Globe on Saturday. I was a classmate and neighbour in London in the early 80's while attending Western. I spent many enjoyable hours with Bill, his brother Tom and their beloved and naive dog. Topics of interest and conversation included sports, politics, cooking, Bruce Springsteen, chess, bridge and Who shot JR?. School work would also come into play from time to time. Bill was an avid participant in all. I remember some of the Volk familiy from their visits to London and the many stories that Bill and Tom shared with laughter, love and respect. As I recall it was a group with strong shared values and sense of itself. I have many fond memories from that brief time many years ago and have thought of Bill many times since then. Bill was a good friend to me. I wish I had reached out to him and let him know that. My condolences. Sandy

I was saddened to hear of your loss. If there is anything I can help you with, or if you just want to talk, call me, otherwise, knowing what you are going through, I will contact you in the not too distant future.

Although we didn't know Bill well, we know that Bill was a very large part of our dear friends Tom and Joanne's lives. Tom often shared stories of growing up with his "older brother" Bill. Tom and Joanne have talked about countless family gatherings spent at Bill and Wendy's lovely home with the rest of the Volk family. Through Tom and Joanne's celebrations in Ottawa, we have caught a glimpse of how close the Volk family is and how sorrowly Bill will be missed. Our deepest sympathies to you all.
