As a youngster and teenager, I was always surprised how Uncle Dennis spoke of others and especially of those closest to him. He was the epitomy of polite, respectful and courteous. He used terms of endearment such as describing Jean as the "Love of his life" in a way I had never seen before, and not seen since. At first I did not think a person could be so good. But I grew to understand he was genuine and true. A person could not ask for a better role model and know a better man.
Several years ago when I visited Uncle Dennis and Aunt Jean he had to show me his "second love"..... which of course was his most recent Cadillac.
But a story he shared with me which is memorable was when he was in the army, driving in a convoy. They came across a military vehicle on the side of the road with a flat tire. A young female officer was changing the tire (tyre I suppose in England). In his gentlemanly manner he asked if he could be of assistance. Princess Elizabeth declined, with her polite thanks. Carry on.
