Ian's death has left a great big vacuum in my life. Never in my 74 years have I known anyone like him. We became acquainted through our membership in TVOPrimetimers during the healthcare/insurance reform debates and political warfare in the US. I live in South Carolina. He helped me to gather real Canadians' opinions of their healthcare system in response to my Republican Congressmen's statements to constituents, "You don't want Canadian style healthcare." From that start, our friendship grew through almost daily emails and Facebook postings related to our quite compatible opinions and observations of the US and Canadian political scenes--and our cats. Ian's spirit was/is unbounded. He touched me through time and distance with his honest caring and extreme attentiveness. Everyone who knows him must understand what I am saying. I'm borrowing this tribute written by Flavia Weedn to express my love for Ian: "Some people come into lives and quickly go. Some stay for a while, leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never the same."

My heartfelt sympathy to Ian's family and friends. I was saddened and shocked to hear of Ian's sudden passing, it did not seem possible. Not being directly involved in production at TVOntario, it was not until his retirement that I was able to make a match between Ian's face and name. Ian was the one with the camera at TVO and CEP events, cheerfully snapping pics to be shared online, the very next day. It was my pleasure to have made the connection. Ian was kind, thoughtful and generous and will be sorely missed. He will continue to live on in our memories of him and of course in his photography - he is forever linked to his beautiful photographs.

My sincere condolences to Ian's family and friends. I spoke with Ian for the first time just last week. I phoned to thank him for the lovely photograph he sent in memory of my son, Steve, who was a colleague of his at TVO fifteen years ago and we had a nice chat. I was, therefore, shocked to read of his sudden death, exactly two years after my own son's passing. I can attest that his photography has brought me great joy - Dorothy Woods

Our deepest sympathy to his family. Life is so precious and so short. It will be said over and over again in the days to come.... Ian was a gentle and kind man, who always tried to make the world a better place. My fortune in knowing Ian was from our Youth Group days at Deer Park Church for a number of years. The many retreats, outings and nights of bridge, where Ian would usually be on the losing side, but have so much fun doing it always reminded us to have fun and never take life too seriously. Though I did canvas with him a few times for his father's election runs... it will be the many nights where his mere presence would lift the spirits of all. His banter... his insane laugh... and oh of course... is many many renditions of Lilly Tomlin and her skits of Mr. Veedle... which already makes me chuckle when I think of his snorts. This was one his the skits he did over and over again and his favourite word ominpitent! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k9e3dTOJi0o God, what a wonderful human being!

Ian was an integral part of the on-air Membership team at TVO, and we all loved him -his humour, energy, and commitment to making the show the best possible. Once retired, he directed that great energy and commitment to the PrimeTimers - urging us all to attend functions, photographing us and posting those photos on line for us all to enjoy. Thanks Ian. We'll miss you.

Heartfelt condolences to Gordon, Cassandra, Victoria, Alycia and all of Ian's many close friends. May you find strength and courage in the fond wishes and supportive thoughts coming your way from those of us who were lucky enough to share some of Ian's journey. And Ian, may you find everlasting peace and happiness. Please put that camera down when I'm talking to you. Thank you for who you were, who you are and always will be. Never far away. As close as the next thought. If only you could send us some pictures now. Rest in Peace. "And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make."

Ian's friends at West Park are sad to learn of his sudden death. Ian was a tremendous support to the residents who participate in the Hearts to Art program at West Park. Since Ian first started as a volunteer in January of 2009 he has shared his passion for photography with residents. He was often seen at special events taking photos which he enjoyed sharing with others. It is clear that he cared deeply for the people he worked with and we will miss him. Our sympathy goes to Ian's family, and friends during this sad time. Sharon Miron, Manager Volunteer Resources & Recreation Therapy Services - West Park Healthcare Centre
