Vicki: I was shocked to see George's obituary in the Globe last November. I tried to get a note to you through the Humphrey Funeral Home web site but was unable to get into it in November. Jacqui and I remember when you both came to our place on Gordon Road in North York. SInce those days in the late 80s and early 90s, we lived in Burlington 1992-94; Vancouver 1994-2000; Toronto downtown 2000-07; and finally settled in Oakville in 2007. Yet, wherever I was, there was hardly a February that went by without my fondly remember George playing the piano non-stop for the annual Phi Kap Weekends! I also remember that we had a team of Pledges ensuring George's mug on the piano was never empty - and the music never stopped! It is indeed a shame that he was taken from us all too soon. Please have someone let me know where and when the Celebration of his life will be held in Toronto and in Chester. Sincerely. David Phi Kappa Pi Feb 1965 David R. We were very shocked and saddened to hear of George’s passing. I first met George at Dal Law School. From that day on he has been a cherished friend. I recall our moot court, an event I will never forget. George refereed to it as the "mighty moot". He will surely be missed. With love and sympathy, Margaret and Mark Cleary.

Hi Vicki, I was so sorry to read the notice of George's passing - what a shock. But he certainly packed a lot of living into a relatively short life. Do you remember how embarrassed he was the first time we met - and I told him that his reputation had preceded him? Catherine and Ian join me in sending condolences - they remember the lobster races in your kitchen. Best wishes to you and all your family - and especially to Sheila. Nancy

Dear Vicki, I was saddened to learn of George's passing. He will be missed by many. As you know, I first met George in the 1970s when I worked for the NS Dept. of Education, and although I didn't work directly with him as our fields of work were different, I got to kown him to some extent. I was please to re-connect with George in Chester a few years ago, and to get to know and work with you on several Chester Playhouse special events. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this very difficult time. With sympathy. Glenda Redden

It was with great sadness that I heard of George`s passing. George was everything to me and without his untiring help back in the late 70`s(we had not one active at this time), Getting Brothers to support my efforts at rebuilding, to twisting a few arms to help with Scholarships, and rennovations we would not have survived. Whenever I needed a guest speaker George would call one of the Brothers, whether the Honorable Joe Ghiz to Judge "Ferggie" Furgeson, George would guarantee me he would find me someone. He would play the piano as he did for Irene at the 85th, the tune of course being non other than "Irene Good Night" The Zeta Gamma Chapter has ask me on their behalf to express our great sadness on your loss Vickie. To you and family, please accept these condolences as our heart felt sadness yet thanks for giving us the best Phi Kap ever. Respectfully, Patt Dunphy, ZG`72 Past President ZG, Alumni

I was very sorry to learn of George's recent passing. I fondly remember my early sales publishing days with Addison-Wesley covering Atlantic Canada in the early eighties. John Champ had hired me out of Halifax and I soon met George (and Joe Swan and the rest of the gang). When George learned I had gone to Acadia and played the piano as well, we set the world right with lots of stories about Wolfville, and the styles of music we liked! He always had great people working with him, and they all taught me a great deal about being in business and keeping one eye on the ball and the other on future opportunities; treating your staff well, celebrating victories and learning from mistakes. He believed in strong relationships with customers and I suspect couldn't stomach the current mess most companies are in when it comes to serving customers well. He also believed in maintaining friendships over many years. With his passing goes many stories in the educational publishing field in Canada. I extend my condolences to Vicki and family for their loss of a good and decent man. Cherish the memories, and know that he's no doubt now taking charge of another project assigned by a Higher Power!

Vicky and Family I wish to express my deepest sympathy on learning of the sudden passing of George. I remember George when our family moved to Wolfville in 1942. We moved in the home at the top of Westwood Ave,a good coasting hill, now the home of the Irving Centre. As a young boy, I remember George as a fun person in play and in the same class as George up to Grade three, at which time my mother sold our home and we returned to Halifax. This was the last time I ever saw George, but kept remembering those times. Sorry that I did not meet him again, although I had two brothers at UNB, one a lawyer from Dal and the older brother was a Phi KAP member. I also raced and sailed out of AYC and regattas in Chester. Many sailing people retired to Chester like the Late Bob Downie. After reading all the condolences, I realized George was a fun loving spirited guy who one was fortunate to have known.

Dear Vicki, It is with shock and great sadness that I learned of George's passing. I am now living in London, England and so learned from an associate of George's passing. As you know George and I worked very closely on several ventures together in the 1990's and I always enjoyed and appreciated George's dedication, passion and drive to make anything he was associated the best it could be. I learned a lot from George in those years and have many fond memories. I will always have a soft spot for George. Sincerely, Jim Penturn

Dear Vicki, Ted and I were shocked and saddened to learn of George's sudden death. He was such a gregarious and high-spirited man that it's hard to believe he will no longer be part of the Chester scene. Ted especially enjoyed working with George in politics, and we both enjoyed his musical contributions to the community. Although you must be feeling a tremendous loss, we hope that as time passes you will be buoyed up by many lovely memories of the years you spent together. With love and sympathy to you and your family, Joan and Ted

I was deeply saddened to get the news of George's sudden passing. In my lifetime I've met thousands of people but there are only a handful who have etched a permanent mark on my soul. George was certainly one of those people. My one sustaining image of George is the two of us on my sailboat in gale force winds, George with a drink in one hand, cell phone in the other yakking with his broker and screaming to the heavens that this was what sailing was meant to be. That moment holds so much of what George has meant to me; a pirate with an inexhaustible lust for life, enormous capacity for joy and by God a man who loved a good drink. I'll always miss him. He was one of the last good guys. Herb
