Obituary of Patricia Macpherson
Patricia Anne Macpherson
(nee Giberson)
"The sea is calm to-night./The tide is full, the moon lies fair"
Pat lived her life with grace and dignity and died the same way on Thursday, September 30th, 2010 at the age of 80 after a brief illness. She was a loving wife and life partner to Sandy Macpherson. She treasured her children Alex, Alison (Mark) and Neil (Jen) and her grandchildren AJ, Katie, Emily, Krista, Kyle and Liam. Born and raised in the Maritimes, Pat was a graduate of Acadia and McGill. She cared deeply for others and put that compassion into action through her work as a social worker and as an activist in the civil rights and peace movements. She enjoyed traveling and was an eager hiker through the countryside in Canada, as well as taking extended walks with Sandy through Spain, England and Italy. She participated with Sandy in the '97 Newfoundland Flotilla, sailing to Bonavista. Her love of the outdoors also led her to spend long hours tending to her garden. On rainy days, she would head inside to her potting studio or continue her studies on the piano. Pat was an avid and award-winning potter for over 40 years. Her work experimenting with glazes and patterns is just one evidence of her intellectual curiosity and creativity; she was a frequent theatre-goer and a fervid reader. She will be missed by her many friends and family members close to home and around the world. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 3. Service will be held in TORONTO NECROPOLIS CHAPEL, 200 Winchester Street on Monday, October 4 at 11:00 a.m. At Pat's request, instead of flowers please make a donation to the Canadian Voice of Women for Peace, 761 Queen Street West, Suite 203, Toronto M6J 1G1 or to another charity of your choice. Condolences and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.
