Obituary of Vivian Babin
BABIN, Vivian Jean (nee Meisner)
Vivian was taken from us on Monday, September 27, 2010 at her home in Leaside. She was born in Upper Northfield, Nova Scotia, the only child of Arthur Meisner and Mary Lohnes. In her early years she attended a public school until she elected to attend the School for the Blind in Halifax. Here she spent many happy years enjoying various activities and the excellent curriculum provided. However, her favourite pursuit was the school's drama club where she participated in a number of presentations performed for the public. In 1951 Vivian married James L. Babin whose life work was that of an insurance underwriter, mostly in Toronto. James Babin passed away in September, 1999. Vivian was stricken with cancer several years ago, a disease that she fought with all of the zest and verve which personified the way she lived her life. Humour was no stranger to Vivian. Her friends remember warmly the many times they laughed together, and also the loyalty and generosity that were her trademarks. When her sight finally failed, she constantly had her radio as her companion and many city officials will remember the occasions she gave them her version of what the decision should have been when she didn't appreciate theirs. Ever the common sense warrior, and frequently the victor of those verbal encounters, Vivian Jean Babin lived her life to the fullest, and how we all loved her. We were fortunate to have her in our lives. She leaves behind so many treasured friends. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) for a service on Thursday, September 30th at 2:00 p.m. Friends who wish to say a personal goodbye to this special lady will be welcomed one hour before the service (1:00 p.m.). Condolences and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.
