Dear Lisa and Clair A friend just forwarded to me your mother's obituary notice in the Globe and Mail. Please accept my condolences to you and your families. Your mother was a remarkable woman, and a wonderful friend to my mother, going all the way back to the years we lived in Ancaster. Since I am in Paris until the middle of the week, I will miss your mother's service on Monday. I am especially sorry about this, as I appreciated seeing Clair at my mother's service at St. Simon's. With best regards to you both, Duncan

"Even though we have never met Helen, it doesn't mean we are not aware of the important role they have played in the life of someone we have come to love". Arabella Bowen, our daughter-in-law has shared with us her memories of the elegant, always articulate and graceful nature that typified the life of her grandmother. It is obvious from her thoughts and memories that she thought of her as a shinning light for the family and the community. Lisa, Walter, Staunton and Arabella can always take comfort in knowing that the candle that burns for Helen Balfour will continue to light future paths in their lives.

I am a former Hamilton Spectator columnist who met your mother some time ago, I think for an interview. The last time I met with the Balfours was at Hamilton's Liuna Station for the Hillfield Strathallan 'old girls' reunion a few years ago. Where can I return the Hillfield Strathallan memory book kindly lent to me for my subsequent story. Unfortunately,it was never picked up at The Spec's front desk.
