Obituary of Thomas Brown

BROWN, Thomas Campion, M. D., F.R.C.P. (C), F.C.A.P., Passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, July 15, 2012. Born in the spring of 1920, son of the late Frank H. Brown, C.B.E., and Elizabeth McIlroy Brown. Predeceased by his beloved wife Joye Louise Brown (2005) and his brother Alexander G. Brown. Loving father of Sheila Munro (Richard, deceased), Lynda Tanaka (Minoru) and Tom (Carol), survived by his six grandsons Gordon Munro (Paige), Andrew Munro, Tim Brown, Chris Brown, Kevin Tanaka and Cory Tanaka, and by his great-grandson Keir Munro. Graduate of UTS ('37), University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine (Jan '43), serving at Camp Borden, Bramshott and Basingstoke Military Hospitals (22nd C.G.H., CA(O) R.C.A.M.C. 1945-46, Major), served as Pathologist in Chief of the Ontario Cancer Institute (Princess Margaret Hospital) from its opening in 1957 until his retirement in 1985, Pathologist at Toronto General Hospital - Director of Clinical Pathology Wellesley Hospital 1960 to 1985, held various teaching and leadership positions at University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine. Past President of the Academy of Medicine of Toronto, camper and counselor Onondaga Camp, Nu Sigma Nu fraternity (U of T), member of the University Club and York Downs Golf and Country Club. Dad's sense of humour and caring attitude made his involvement in family matters a wonderful thing. Even though his piano training ended with the start of university, he was our best piano teacher on the few times when he could not resist being involved. A special thank you to the staff of the University Club and York Downs for making it possible for Dr. Brown to continue his club activities as his mobility declined. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES CHAPEL LIMITED, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 18. Memorial Service will be held in GLENVIEW PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 1 Glenview Avenue on Thursday, July 19 at 4:00 p.m. If desired, a donation made to the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation, MS Society of Canada, YouthLink, Glenview Presbyterian Church or to your favourite charity would be appreciated.
