Obituary of Hazel Ryder

RYDER, Hazel Geraldine At Donway Place, Toronto on Sunday, July 8, 2012 in her 102nd year. Daughter of the late Bismarck Green and the former Liena Belle Pierce. Predeceased by a brother Dr. Cecil Pierce Green, a sister Audrey Green and also by her husband William Ryder (1996). Hazel was a graduate R.N. from Brockville General Hospital. In 1943, she enlisted as a Nursing Sister in the Royal Canadian Navy. She served at H.M.C.S. Stadacona, H.M.C. Cornwallis, H.M.C.S. Naden/Esquimault and the Royal Canadian Naval Hospital, St. Hyacinthe. When she rejoined civilian life, she became Medical Records Officer at Toronto's Mount Sinai Hospital for a number of years. She was a member of the Daughter's of the Nile Lodge (Oronto Temple) and became Queen of the Nile in 1971. She was a devoted member of the Church of Our Saviour (Anglican) in Don Mills. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES CHAPEL LIMITED, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service in the chapel at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 12. Interment to follow in the family plot at Highland Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the C.N.I.B. 1929 Bayview Avenue, Toronto M4G 3E8.
