I was shocked to learn about the loss of "The Cheese"! I work with Gord at Mcleod in the mid 1970s. He was such a great mentor and friend. When I left Mcleod we had lunch together 4 or 5 times a year to keep up with each others lives. He was very proud of his family and I know that they meant a great deal to him. He was a very faithful friend and will be missed by many. It's so funny, I was thinking about him a month or so ago and thinking i should try to find him. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you all and I will always carry fond memories in my heart of Gord.

do not get to read the paper often but read this news while waiting in a doctor's office in halifax. although 7 years older than myself i remember his name frequently being mentioned, always in a positive way, by my parents patrick & eleanor johnson. i grew up living on the grounds of ucc and watching the older students like gordon ( mostly the sports football and hockey ) and tried to be just like them. i'm sure if there is a way eleanor will be there waiting for him and making sure he is introduced to all the right people! very sorry for your loss far too young sincerely derek johnson

In 1990, when I was 21 and new to Bay Street, Gord was a hero. We all looked up to him because he was smart, capable and young like us. Thank you for sharing your husband, father, son, brother and friend with a whole generation of Bay Street bankers. With deepest sympathy, Tracey McVicar CAI Capital Management

To Gords family, I would like to extend my deep sympathy for your loss. I played U-16 football with Gord at UCC where he was the Captain of the team. Gord gave me my first nick-name "Chunky" which stuck with me for many years. Cheese was one of those guys you knew would do well in life because he was a leader, he had an abundance of energy, treated everyone with respect and had a sense of humor to smooth out the rough edges in life.

Dear Kim and family My wife, Chris, and I have you all very much in our thoughts at your sudden loss of Gord. I have known Gord for many years as a fellow member of the Board of Governors at North York General Hospital. I have felt a close kinship to Gord as he was my predecessor as treasurer of the Board. To me, Gord was a wonderful man. He possessed a profound sense of matters of importance, with an approach of fairness, all surrounded with a great sense of humour. He was a perfect gentleman. We shall all miss him, but I will always remember his approach and zeal for life. Yours sincerely Paul & Chris Oliver
