Our heartfelt condolences to the entire Black family on the loss of such a warm, generous and very colourful man. I have such wonderful memories of spending time at the cottage with Jannyne,David and all of our children. The Tot Lot and of course the countless hours spent in the kitchen cooking bacon for the cast of thousands who would arrive for Fran's Sunday breakfasts and Bloody Mary's after Mass. May all these and the countless other memories help to ease your sorrow.

Remembering Bill From the Nelson Lakes, South Island, New Zealand I think that Bill would have liked this place, where I am so fortunate to find myself between stops on a book tour of the Antipodes. It is remote. Nature reigns. The rivers and lakes teem with trout. The people, Kiwis, are modest and unpreposessing. Friendly, but not in your face. Happy to give you help if you need it, but otherwise, they pretty much leave leave you be. And the visuals, especially now, at dusk, are little short of amazing. The golden light casts long shadows on the green, surrounding hills, and is dancing, shimmering, between islands and beaches on the Marlborough Sound. * * * * * * * * * * I first met Bill in the late sixties, when my dad, the late George Copeland, started to do some legal work for Eddie Black's Ltd. They had a connection, I think, through Kiwanis. But the relationship between the Copeland and Black families really took off in the early seventies, when George left his practice to come and work full time as legal counsel for Black Photo. Thanks mainly to Bill, I got my first summer job, at the Black's Camera store in Nortown Plaza, in 1971. Those jobs carried on, summer after summer, and helped to finance my first backpacking trip abroad in 1973-74, and indeed much of my undergraduate education. For all of that, I am grateful. But there was much, much more. There were the family dinners together. The trips to cottages. And oh, the ski trips - weekends at Craiglieth, and March Breaks, several, if not many of them, at Smuggler's Notch - then Madonna Mountain - in Vermont. There was one especially memorable excursion to Aspen, Colorado, in the early spring of 1972. That adventure, in every respect, was just off scale. * * * * * * * * * * Bill always had a twinkle in his eye, a wise word or pointed question, a great story to tell, a warm smile, and a firm handshake. These are the things that count. They represent the measures of the man that will live on in memory. Bill's was a life well and fully lived. For that, and more, we are all thankful. To his wife, Fran, his children Cassie, Eddie, Don, and David, his brothers, and all others who mourn his loss, please accept my heartfelt condolences. In solidarity, and from afar, Daryl Copeland

Fran, I was so saddended to hear of the passing of Bill. I have such fond memories of you both through your friendships with my grandparents, Herb and Eileen and of course with Arn and Lynn. Even as seemingly disinterested kids and later as moody teenagers, Bill always made an effort to engage us and almost always evoked a smile or laugh from us. He was larger than life and always made me feel included. I will be thinking of you all during this difficult time. Sincerely and with warmest regards, Mary Boynton.

Uncle Bill was so much larger than life. He made me laugh so many times. What a big presence he was in our lives - he gave me my first job folding film boxes, then promoted me to counting money and pictures in the "mailaway" hidden office, my first rides in a big boat. He gave us the pictures of our youth, the venues and the means for the whole extended family to gather, bragging rights to be related to someone sort of famous.
