Obituary of Robert Earl DeMara

DeMARA, Robert Earl (RCAF Veteran of WWII) On Tuesday, February 9, 2010, peacefully at home, as per his wishes, following a valiant struggle with esophageal cancer, in his 87th year. Predeceased by his beloved wife, Audrey of 59 years, he leaves behind his children Carolyn (Bob) Groves, Robert (Debra) and David, five wonderful grandchildren (predeceased by grandson Jamie Groves) and six (soon to be seven) great-grandchildren, as well as his younger siblings: sister Shirley Adams, Ronald (Patricia) and his late sister Margaret Hallnan MacKay. He endeared himself to all who met him, and was admired for his integrity, decency and sharp but gentle wit. He will be missed by his cousins Doug (Marg) Hall, Bill Foster and many others. After serving his country as a pilot - flight officer with the RCAF (North Atlantic Transport (Ferry) Command), and being awarded the North Star for his service, he spent his career in real estate, finally retiring after a stint with the Canadian Government (Public Works) at the age of 63. He pursued his passion for life with his loving wife, and enjoyed his favourite sports - swimming and skiing - until his mid 80's. The family wants to express their deep appreciation for the loving care he has received for the past 8 years from Zhongai Lei, as well as the staff at Sunnybrook Hospital, Veteran's Affairs and the CCAC during the past 2 years. Funeral service will be held in the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 13. Private interment. If desired, donations may be made to the Odette Cancer Centre, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, 2075 Bayview Avenue, Toronto M4N 3M5.
