Obituary of Carol Louise McMahon
Loving wife of 37 years, devoted mother of two, caring sister and daughter, physiotherapist, friend and role model to many. Carol passed away early on February 6, 2010 at the Palliative Care Center at Sunnybrook Hospital after a brief but determined battle with cancer. Born in Richmond, England, she completed her physio training in Manchester, making life-long friends along the way. Carol arrived in Canada by ship in June 1970 on what she and her friends believed was the first step in an around the world trip. She joined the staff at Sunnybrook Hospital in July of that year, married Jim in '73, took a break to raise her two girls then returned to Sunnybrook from whence she retired in 2007. She continued post retirement as a casual staff right up until being diagnosed with cancer in October of 2009. As part of raising her two daughters, Carol became involved with the Girl Guides of Canada (47th Toronto). After teaching so many young girls about citizenship, she became a Canadian citizen herself in 1993. When she retired from Guiding, she had held the positions of Brownie Leader, Guider and District Commissioner. Her pride and joy more recently has been her gardens, particularly her wild flower and native plants garden at the family's Fox Lake property. Countless happy days were spent "at the cottage" with family and friends. Carol is survived by her husband Jim, daughters, Katie and Jennifer (Kevin Lambie), her sister Joan (Phillip Round), her mother Ena Tuck (and the late Tom Tuck) and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Monday, February 8, 2010. A service will be held at 4:30 p.m. in ST. CUTHBERT'S ANGLICAN CHURCH, 1399 Bayview Avenue on February 9, 2010. In lieu of flowers, kindly donate to the Palliative Care Center at Sunnybrook Hospital, 2075 Bayview Ave. Toronto, ON, M4N 3M5 or the Canadian Cancer Society, 55 St. Clair Ave. West, Suite 500, Toronto, ON, M4V 2Y7.
