299 Caribou Island Road Pictou, NS, BOK 1H0 January 20, 2010 Dear Nancy, Martha and Mimi, We were saddened to read in the Globe and Mail of David’s passing. I know that my parents had fond memories of their Plymbridge Road neighbours. Personally, my memory of David is as a BBQ chef. I still remember how much I enjoyed a couple of the best burgers I have ever eaten. I know that words are of little comfort at this time; nevertheless Judith and I are thinking of you and send you our heartfelt sympathy. Sincerely, Judith and Peter Ryan

Dear Mrs. Ward and family, please accept my condolence for your loss. I first met David in 1991 as an articling student when the firm was still known as Davies, Ward & Beck. I enjoyed working for him then and enjoyed working with him as a client of the firm. In fact, I was talking to David on a matter shortly before Christmas. I admired and liked David immensely. He was a outstanding lawyer in every respect. I will miss him.

Dear Mrs. Ward, Martha and Mimi, On behalf of the Stemmle Family (my parents are currently in Florida), I would like express how shocked and saddened we all were to hear of the passing of Mr. Ward. I will always have fond memories of growing up at Georgian Peaks and spending so much time at the Ward chalet... with my 'paste' for lunch... and listening to Mr. Ward remind me to slow down when free-skiing on the hills. He always had such a keen interest in us as young ski racers and truly enjoyed the sport himself. Mr. Ward will be truly missed on the slopes and around the Peaks' property. Our thoughts are with you during this difficult time. With much love and hugs, Karen, Brian, Andrea and Wilf.

Dear Nancy, Mimi and Martha, I wish you all the best during this difficult time. It is hard to think of what to say as David was so many things to so many people. I had the privilege of spending time with him as he enjoyed three of his passions - the firm, sailing and skiing - and have him to thank for playing cupid (an unlikely role for him to be sure) and bringing me and Todd together. What strikes me most is that none of these passions compared to his love and admiration for the three of you. He was so very proud of you all. His chest would puff out and his grin and twinkle broaden that much more when speaking of any one you. It took a special person in Walter to have David happily share one of "his girls". I am grateful to have known him, he was a sweetheart and I will miss him. All of my love, Melissa.

My deepest condolences to Mimi, Martha and Nancy. I had the pleasure to race with David and Mimi on a number of occasions. David was funny, kind and made the entire crew feel welcome aboard. Fiercely competitive but always the consummate gentleman. I raise my glass to you. Have reached their Harbour on the other side. May peace and tranquility be their, always.

I am deeply sorry for your loss. Mr. Ward will be sorely missed. I have great memories of Tuesday night sailing with Mr. Ward, Mimi, Peter, Todd and Melissa. My favorite being when we were overwhelmed by a tempest in the Toronto Harbour. We couldn't see a thing, the thunder was roaring and the lightning was crashing. We secured the boat and then huddled together waiting for the end- some of us were waiting for the storm to end, others, I am not so sure. I seem to recall at one point Mimi renounced all of her sins and vowed to be good if we made it back to shore. Of course, the Captain was calm throughout. Then, at the peak of the madness we seemed to gain a collective peace and we began to really enjoy ourselves. There was a lot of laughter as we wended our way back to shore. It was one best times I ever had on that boat. I will always remember how much fun we had with Mr. Ward- thanks for letting Melissa's little brother join the crew.

I knew David for over forty years, and I was always impressed with his wide-ranging knowledge and his exceptional intelligence. We both practiced in the tax field , but David had such fine skills in legal judgement and argument as to stand out from all his colleagues. He was a challenging person to argue with, but when you did do this, you learned a lot. He was a gentlemen, admired by all he came in contact with, and a clear leader in thought and decision. He leaves fond memories and a great example, and he will be fondly and affectionately missed.
