Obituary of Mervyn Couse

Mervyn Austin Couse, P.Eng. January 22, 1923 to January 10, 2010 Mervyn passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Sunday, January 10, 2010, at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. Beloved husband to Agnes for more than 62 years. Loving father to his four daughters; Beverley Couse of Toronto, Barbara (Brad Tucker) of Kitchener, Brenda (Peter Lobraico) of Stouffville, and Deborah Couse (Jeff Anderson) of Ottawa. Proud and loving "Poppa" to Ryan MacKinnon, Gregory MacKinnon (presently serving in Afghanistan), Jeffrey and Sara Lobraico. He will be sorely missed by many friends and extended family. Predeceased by his parents Ella and Joseph Couse and sister Patricia Roberts. At the age of 19, he joined the RCAF and later served with the Royal Air Force in WWII as a Navigator. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross in 1945. His station commander commended him for "magnificent fortitude" and "cheerful confidence." These were qualities he brought to his professional life as well. After graduating in 1950 from the University of Toronto in Civil Engineering, he spent most of his career working for Proctor & Redfern Ltd., retiring as Senior Vice President. Throughout his life he enjoyed traveling with Agnes to more than 40 countries. Muskoka was where he spent many memorable summer and winter vacations at the family cottage. The family would like to extend their appreciation and gratitude for kindness to all caregivers at Sunnybrook Hospital and especially "K-Wing" of the George Hees' veterans' residence. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 2:00 - 4:00 and 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 14. Service in the chapel at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 15. Private interment to follow at a later date.
