Jim: Please accept my sincere condolences and convey them also to your mother. It's hard to believe but your father and I go back 40 years to the day I asked Jack Armstrong to suggest a bright and able nominee for the Ryerson board. As we both know, your father was all of that and a lot more.

Derek and I send our love and sympathy to the entire Reid family, and most especially to dear Shirley. We have such warm memories of our times together as neighbours on Old Forest Hill Road. Our son David (now 44, married, with a three year old) shared a special closeness with Barbara, his frequent babysitter. We are all fortunate to have had such a loving, devoted and honourable man in our lives. It was a privilege to know Dick, and indeed, the entire Reid family.

Sincerest condolences to Shirley Reid & family. Dick was a fine gentleman who never lost his "good guy" persona. First met him at the the old Edmonton Refinery (where I also worked with Kay) and ran into him at various other Company locations later on. Dick always remembered me and took time to catch up. Followed his distinquished career with Imperial and Exxon and feel much of our success as a Company is due to him.

Dear Jim: Our thoughts are with you and your family. From the notice in the Globe and Mail your father was an amazing person. We did not know him, but we know you. The values that are represented in the the obituary we see in you, so he was obviously a strong influence. It speaks volumes about his relationship to your mother his wife and partner of 63 years. Great memories will no doubt make her grief easier. Sunni and Gurd.

I am saddened to hear of Dick's passing. As a new chemical engineer graduate joining Imperial Oil in 1960, I was introduced to Dick and quickly realized his dedication to his work, his respect for his colleagues and his expectations of achieving needed results. It was a work ethic, that I tried to follow in my own career with Imperial Oil. Dick never forgot his roots. Even when he climbed the corporate ladder, he had time to still recognize other employees with whom he worked with in the past. Although demanding of employees to achieve results, he still realized that not all can achieve these results and did not expect more than an individual can achieve. It was a pleasure to have known Dick. My condolences to the family.
