I was so sorry to hear of Eric's passing....his infectious smile was a familiar face to me every week when he came into the salon for the battle of the curls! Yes, I was privileged to be "Curly's" hairstylist for many years...he always wanted his hair to look like Hugh Grant's...yes , he was an eternal optimist. He was so supportive and helpful to the younger folk around him. I will always be grateful for the breaks he gave me and the insights he shared. I was very aware that his family meant the world to him. I wish you all the time you need to grieve, but I know Eric would want you all to be happy when you remember him...as all that knew him will.

Growing up in the "Beach" Eric and his family were neighbours. Eric was a regular visitor to our house, and our relationship continued through membership at The Scarboro Golf Club. I will always remember his kindness at the passing of my mother and the courtesey he extended to my wife and I at Scarboro. Our sincere condolences to Eric's family. He will be fondly remembered. Memories of The Pied Piper of Horseshoe Valley. Whenever Eric, better known as Curly arrived on the hill at Horseshoe, he would be mobbed by kids wanting to ski with him. He skied so well that no one could possibly guess his age. He was always young. The lucky ones received an invitation to apres ski at the chalet to hear stories and argue points of business, politics and sports. He was like the dad you wished you had, because he played hard and well and always made you feel good and didn't have to discipline you. I had the pleasure of travelling with Eric and Barbara several times to their condo at Aspen Snowmass. That was always a real treat. One year, Eric and I went to Aspen for the last week of the season. Read no line ups. After 8 days powder we decided to return early because we were exhausted. I, of course was, 23 years younger and he wore me out. His positive and fun attitude was to make sure his very successful business never got in the way of golf and skiing in which he excelled. His, self taught, design talents were the envy of many architects. He seemed to have lived before in a guilded age of European style and was drawing from memory. The most expensive gift I gave him was a sketch book which he used for a major renovation to the Green Pines house. Expensive for him that is. When I left Canada for the Turks and Caicos Islands 15 years ago I was so pleased when he drove to Barrie to visit to see me off. That was so like Curly to care for one of his young people. Eric taught me many good life lessons and a few bad habits. He was an inspiration to me. I wish I could be at the celebration of his life at Markland Woods, but time and geography work against me. I hope this statement will be read. Eric leaves a very successful family, friends in the thousands and a lasting architectural legacy. Eric lived life to the fullest. WELL DONE!

If I'm not able to be with you all today, just know that I'll miss Eric a lot. I can't tell you how sad I was to hear the news. I'll always remember/envy that "ultra-brite" smile and his movie star hair...not to mention his golfing prowess. My heart goes out to Diane and Shirley, and the rest of his family and friends.

I would like to express my deepest regret to the Hanson family on Eric's passing. I was privileged to have been able to know him by way of a business relationship, if for only a brief period. He seemed to have lived a truly remarkable life. I chose to start my law practice at one of Mr. Hanson's well designed properties. When my former business partner and I met Eric for the first time it was clear to us that he understood and could relate to our optimism and hope for establishing ourselves. However, it was equally apparent to me that he also appreciated that as new lawyers starting out on our own, our immediate future was undefined and our means limited. He was always kind and considerate in his advice and approach. I enjoyed hearing him tell stories about the buildings he designed and the projects that kept him busy. I am grateful that I had an opportunity to thank him recently for his support. God Bless him and his family. Again my Condolences, sincerely, Faizal Mirza
