Obituary of Daniel Presley
PRESLEY, Daniel Edward
Died peacefully at Toronto on October 21, 2009 at the age of 76 years. Survived by his sister Judy Bleau, and his brother and sister-in-law Bill and Lorna Presley. Son of the late Gertrude and Gordon Presley, and predeceased by his brother Charles Presley and his sisters Edith, Helen and Grace. Predeceased by his adored wife Sheila Smyth. Loved husband of Judith Gelber. Survived by his loving children and their spouses; Carolyn and Christopher Jameson, Laura and Jake Luke, Allison and Patrick Brooks, Meredith Presley and Steve Chrisman. Also survived by his grandchildren, who will miss him dearly, Christina, Brendan, Joshua, Nicholas, Andrew, Jake, Rebecca, Rachel, Cameron and Gillian. Dan grew up in Montreal (Verdun) and graduated from Sir George Williams College with a degree in English - some would say in basketball. His strength in marketing led him to a wonderful career at Texaco Canada. Transferred to Toronto in 1973, one role was to manage the relationship with the CBC and the Metropolitan Opera, of which he became so enamoured that he served on the Board of Opera Hamilton, and especially enjoyed his trips to the Met in New York, viewing from the best seats in the house - the Texaco box. Once retired, volunteer work with The Learning Partnership and the Salvation Army drew his interest. Travel with Judith, playing golf with his brother Chic, and tennis with the 'old guys' at the Toronto Lawn Tennis Club became his main pasttimes. Dan was a warm, loving man with great charm; you could be sure that wherever he was, friendship, good fellowship, and interesting times were had. He will be greatly missed. Mass of Christian Burial to be held in ST. BONAVENTURE CHURCH, 1300 Leslie Street, Toronto on Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. If desired, donations to a charity of one's choice would be appreciated.
