It was a tremendous honour to know and love the Hendersons. We are so happy they are together again. Ann wouldn't leave his side - she just could not be without him ;). Aaah to be just like them when we get older would just be superb. Memories we will treasure. We will miss you both. xoxo

On behalf of the Board of Directors, staff and volunteers at The Power Plant, I would like to express our sincere condolences to you and your family on the recent passing of Lyman Henderson. Even though I did not know him personally, I know that he was a very generous patron of the arts in general, and a great supporter of our institution specifically. As a former Vice –Chair, and a founding donor of The Power Plant, he was instrumental in helping to establish our gallery both physically, and in contributing to the development of our vision and mission. His leadership, mentorship, and warm, generous nature will truly be missed in the Toronto arts community. Please accept our heartfelt condolences at this most difficult time. With Our Sincere Sympathy, Gaëtane Verna

Dear Buck and the Henderson Family I first met Lyman in 1977 when I began working at D+H in the Don Mills plant. Over the years Lyman and Anne attended many informal staff lunches. He would always sit where ever there was an open spot and strike up a conversation with who ever was close by. He was always interested in you and your life and had a special gift of treating you as an equal and making you feel comfortable. I believe the world has lost one of the "Good Guys", a true humanitarian and mentor to so many. My condolences with deep respect.

Dearest Buck, Victoria and Tony, I was saddened to hear of Lyman’s death and know that you and your families will all miss him terribly. But I have such fond memories of our many joyous New Years together and can see Uncle Lyman, in my mind’s eye, sporting his bow ties and waxing lyrical and humourously with his many funny poems. Then, in the morning after, seeing him making mountains of pancakes on New Year’s Day as we all surfaced slowly and headed out for those crisp skates on the pond. He and Aunt Anne gave so many of us so many happy memories. Though we mourn his passing, his spirit and our memories will carry on. Love to all three of you as you grapple with your loss, Kip

I met Lyman all of once, but my father, Roly Harris (died 1994, former Director of D&H), always spoke so highly of him. My father was an astute and accomplished man but seldom effusive with praise, so his admiration of and friendship with Lyman was especially notable. May you all carry on in good spirits now that Lyman has moved to the other room.

It was with great sadness that I learned of Lyman's passing. I sat with Lyman at church on many occasions and it was alway an inspiration to hear him lift his voice to God in song. His collection of Canadian art at home was awe inspiring! I loved listening to him give the history of the artists and their works. I knew him to be a kind and generous man - he will be greatly missed. To Lyman's family - May God bless you and keep you as you mourn the passing of this great man.

Dear Family Members: Please accept my heartfelt condolences on the loss of one of Canada's most extraordinary arts supporters and enthusiasts. I have known Lyman and his astonishing spirit and generosity for close to 40 years, initially as one of my Board members at Visual Arts Ontario and then The Power Plant Art Gallery. Lyman quickly became my mentor and the epitome of what we all hoped any arts Board member could be. He was committed, passionate, understanding, generous, a brilliant business advisor and deeply understood the creative process and what it meant to be an artist. He was always there for all of us in the arts community to lend an ear, his advice, his compassion and often his financial support. His humour and unrelenting generosity is what I will miss the most. The only solace is to know that he will finally be reunited with his loving and amazing Ann. My most sincere condolences on an enormous loss. Bill Boyle

Our dearest Lyman, I can still see you standing in front of me; your smile, the sweet chuckle and the warmth that you always embraced me with. In times of trouble, I would cry on your shoulder, reaching out for your guidance from a gentle soul. You never judged - you inspired. In fact, I remember you reciting a quote; “win with class, fall with grace.” That was 1986 and I guided my company throughout the years on that one quote. Thank you. Lyman, both you and Ann were people of great wealth. The richness of giving, sharing and respectfully embracing everyone no matter who they were. You made people feel comfortable in your presence. You were class, if that makes sense! As we grow older, we carry with us in our hearts a moment of each of the people we meet in life. Slowly and without realizing it, these moments develop our character as we grow to become better human beings. Lyman, I am a better human being because of you. I won’t miss you because you are still with us in all of the things you taught us. As I go forward and when I listen and take a breath within, I know I will hear and feel your wisdom advising me on which direction to go. God gives us the gift of life, what we do with that life is our gift back to God. You Lyman, gave a great gift to God. Thank you, Love, Diane and everyone at Famous PEOPLE Players

My condolences to Buck and the family. I first met Lyman when I came to Don Mills from Oshawa. Being an art lover myself, I could not help but admire the picture in his office. I believe it was titled 'Davenport near Bay'. His welcoming manner set the tone from the remainder of my years at DH. He will live on in the hearts, minds and souls of all who met him.

Buck, Lyman with Ann, and Lyman as an individual - these were the most inspiring people we could hope to meet, to show us how a couple can enjoy every detail of life, and share that joy with everyone they touch. Jane and I were touched by the unstoppable intelligence and the great smile, every single time we had the pleasure of seeing him. The artists will miss him as a great figure of course, and so will those who, like me, gathered around the stage door to enjoy his charm and kind wit.

Dear Family, What a great loss both to you and to the community. Lyman was an extraordinary person, kind, generous, smart and especially warm and caring. He and your Mom seemed to be partners in everything and I saw them frequently at Arts events. I sat on the Board of the Power Plant long ago when Lyman was also a member during the time that it was being built and his wise counsel was always helpful. I was also active in the National Ballet School and the NBC and again saw him frequently. My lasting memory is of Lyman and Ann at Canada Blooms where, many years ago, I saw Ann in a wheelchair[long before she needed one] and Lyman pushing her. When I asked what was wrong with Ann, Lyman replied " Oh, we took a wheel chair because it is such a long walk around this show and we take turns pushing each other in it. His kindness, warmth, creativity and generosity will long be remembered by all who knew him. I will miss him. I felt he was a friend though in latter years I saw him infrequently. My deepest condolences go out to you and your families. I hope your many happy memories of your Dad will sustain you through this sad time. With warm wishes, Elaine Solway
