Dear Gayle: You and I met only once - at John and Barb Langs' almost two years ago, when they were kind enough to open their home to a number of Huron alumni at Christmas time. I'm sorry that I didn't get to know you better; and also not to have shared a more intimate friendship with Barry. He and I served together on the Huron Student Council back in the mid-1960's; and we connected over the years only occasionally at the odd social and reunion event. He always impressed me as an intelligent, forthright and personable individual - one who I both respected and admired: as a fellow-student; a professional; and a person. I have been affected by recent events far more than I would have believed possible; he and your family have not been out of my mind for more than an hour or so since I heard of his passing. The memorial service last week was an excellent tribute to a remarkable man; I apologize that I didn't introduce myself to you but I simply didn't feel comfortable intruding upon your dialogue with more long-standing friends. May I offer you and your family sincere condolences from both me and my wife, Bev; the world will not be quite as good a place with Barry Grant no longer in it.

Dear Gayle and Family I was immensely saddened to hear of Barry's death. We were at Huron together, and I served with him on the Student Council. He was great fun and a wonderful guy, and although we've met again at Huron anniversaries, he shall always remain as he was in our student days in my memory-so -forever young. I shall be sending a donation to Huron in remembrance. Sincerely Ginny

Gayle, I was so sad to hear of Barry's passing. I thought of the years playing on the Granite squash Toronto League teams with him - a lot of very good memories. We were regular partners on the Doubles squash team for a few seasons during its early Eighties heyday: he was one of my favourite Doubles partners, and was great fun off the court. My sympathies to you and Britt, Tucker & Morgan. Peter H.

Grant Family, I am very sorry for your loss - I had the great fortune of working with Barry in the early 90's when my legal career got started, and seeing him at the Cambridge Club; he was always warm, friendly and in many ways a mentor to me on how law was meant to be practiced (having fun with your clients); I will always remember him with positive thoughts and feel lucky to have worked with him. To Morgan, I had no idea until today that your father was Barry - how much fun you must have had growing up with him!!

Sorry to hear of his passing. I remember first playing squash against "Mr. Grant" as a junior. At first he looked rather large and intimidating, but time proved him to be one of the nicest opponents you could ever play against. A true gentleman.

Dear Gayle & Family, I was so sorry to hear of Barry's death. He was such a kind, fun loving, generous man and he will be missed. I remember fondly times on the squash court, "graduations" at the cottage, fun dinners at Stratford, wonderful home cooked meals by "Master Chef Gayle". Barry & Gayle showed great faith in my children when they first started babysitting. When a relative of mine was having some legal difficulties, Barry kindly provided guidance and a helping hand. He was a very special man, husband, and friend and is gone all too soon. My deepest sympathy to Gayle, Britt, Tucker & Morgan. Affectionately, "Lady Jane" x x x ("Lady Jane"- name given to me by Barry at Lake of Bays)

Dear Gayle, Please accept my sincere condolences. It saddens me to hear that Barry has passed away after fighting so hard for the past couple of years. He was so amazing in both his stamina and his upbeat humour regardless of the pain and discomfort. Both he and Bela were far to young to leave us and the family. If ever you feel the need to talk or are short of company when you want some just give me a call. Dianne Fejer

Gayle, I was so sorry to read in the Globe about your Barry's passing. I knew when we met at the Bigwin Member Guest that he was unwell. Such a loss for you and your family. He was such a supporter and fan of Huron. I was there when he was acknowledged for all his contributions. He so deserved the recognition. Thinking of you, Janet and Jamie Caskey in London, Ont.

Gayle, Deb and I are very sad to learn of the passing of Barry. He was far too young. I had a great chat with Barry at the Jesters in June. We had many laughs about stories from tournaments, Lapham Grants and Boynton's farm. Barry was full of life, fun to spend time with and he had great tastes in undergrad schools. We wish you and your children all the best. Deb and Ward
