Obituary of Doreen Jones
DOREEN MURIEL JONES
(nee Barnett)
Passed away in the palliative care unit at Toronto East General Hospital on the morning of June 21, 2012, at the age of ninety-five. Doreen was born in Toronto on April 28, 1917, the daughter of Walter and Muriel, and sister of the late Edison Barnett. She was the devoted and much loved wife to her late husband Cyril Jones, and mother of Cliff (Eve), Karen (Patrick), and Eric (Margaret). She was adored and will be missed by her grandchildren Sarah, and Melissa (John), and great-grandchild Finlay. Doreen's engaging and cheerful disposition brought a sparkle of life into the lives of everyone she met and seldom a day passed without sharing a laugh. She was simply fun to be with, and well liked because she stuck by her friends and they, in turn, stuck by her. Doreen thrived in the social company of her devoted friends. As a young woman Doreen was a buyer of costume jewellery at Simpsons. She met Cyril - 'Chic' - on the tennis courts behind Kimbourne United Church. Once married, she devoted herself to her family and was a loving, caring wife, mother and grandmother throughout her life. She spent many a carefree summer with her family on the shores of Lake Scugog. Doreen was a passionate and skilled seamstress and was never happier than when she had a sewing project. Her later years were highlighted by a return to the daily interactions of working in retail at Ko's, Humbertown, along with travel and winters spent in Florida. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES CHAPEL LIMITED, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 for a service in the chapel at 7:00 p.m. If desired, donations may be sent to Fellowship Towers, or The Palliative Care Unit of Toronto East General Hospital. Condolences and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.
