From: Huguette Andrew-St.Hilaire 25th July 2009 Poem to be read For: My Sister Miranda THE ROSE BEYOND THE WALL Near shady wall a rose once grew Budded and blossomed in God’s free Light, Watered and fed by the morning dew, Shedding its sweetness day and night. As it grew and blossomed fair and tall, Slowly rising to loftier height, It came to a crevice in the wall Through which there shone a beam of light. Onward it crept with added strength With never a thought of fear or pride, It followed the light through the crevice’s length And unfolded itself on the other side. The light, the dew the broadening view Were found the same as they were before, And it lost itself in beauties new, Breathing its fragrance more and more Shall claim of death cause us to grieve And make our courage faint and fall? Nay! Let us faith and hope receive….. The rose still grows beyond the wall. Scattering fragrance far and wide Just as it did in days of yore, Just as it did on the other side, Just as it will forevermore. (From the writings of A.L. Frink) …………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………. My Sister, I will always remember your voice on the phone, as I spoke to you every night without fail. On the night of the 14th, at 8:45 p.m. on the phone, You said that you were : “tired”; “ I am tired Huguette, I feel so tired, I can’t talk, I am just so tired. ” and I said, “ Don’t strain yourself sister, go to sleep and have a blessed rest. Remember I love you and God loves you too. I will call you tomorrow”. I am sure that these were your last words. So even if I cannot be present at this moment, I feel blessed knowing that I was the last to hear you speak, the most beautiful parting gift a sister can ask for. These parting words will always be in my mind. You will always be in my heart. I LOVE YOU. ALONG WITH ME, CONDOLENCES FROM THE HEART COMES FROM : Your Father: – Clement Barzey & wife; My husband : Ernest St. Hilaire; And your closest friend and former Workmate (DBMC) Rosemary Philbert Cambran
