Gladys (Mac) Greenwood
Born in Omemee, Ontario on September 22nd, 1921, she died peacefully in her 88th year on June 30th, 2009 at Sunnybrook Hospital. Beloved wife to Dr. A.D. (Barry) McKelvey (1920 - 1972) and Dr. William F. Greenwood (1913 - 2000). Daughter of the late Edith and Bruce McNevin and predeceased by her sisters Anna Marguerite Stirling and Lorna McNevin, Mac was the proud mother of A. Bruce (Janet) McKelvey, Michael Kent (Merilyn) McKelvey and the late Anna Jane McKelvey. She was the devoted step-mother of Lillian (Kenneth) Brown, William (Annette) Greenwood and Tom (Jacqueline) Greenwood. Always a loving grandmother to Barry (Kari), Heather (Nick), Michelle, Alex and Susan McKelvey; David (Margot), Timothy (Amy) and Michael Brown; Justine, Robin, Ben, Madeline, Grace, Rysa and Catherine Greenwood. Also, a caring great-grandmother to Lucas, Saffron and Payton Brown. She will be fondly remembered by her brother-in-law Kent (Peg) McKelvey, and sisters-in-law Peg McKelvey and Jeannette Campbell as well as her many nieces, nephew and cousins including Heather Labatt and Margaret Moore. After attending Reaboro SS# 7 and Lindsay High School, she graduated from the School of Nursing at the University of Toronto in 1944. Mac practiced as a nurse in Toronto until the birth of her first son. After raising her children, she continued her career as a nurse in the public health system and in service to George Brown College. Her philanthropic work included the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Women's Opera Committee, and Rosedale United Church where she was a member of the congregation. Mac was a respected player in Toronto's bridge community and a long time member of the Rosedale Golf Club and the Badminton & Racquet Club where she will be missed by her friends. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 2nd. The service will take place in ROSEDALE UNITED CHURCH, 159 Roxborough Drive, at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 3rd.
