Dr. Francis was a very Great Man. He attended my birth and guided my own GP with the use of mid-forceps with my first child. As a nurse who worked at York-Finch for a number of years, I had many times conversations with Dr. Bill by phone. He was always respectful and attentive to detail. He must be missed very much. Condolences in his loss. He was a wonderful Doctor and I have always thought him most fondly over the years.

It is truly sad to hear he is gone. My dad who was one of his best friends died in 1994 and Bill was the one who had to break the news to me. Years have passed but I shall always remember his cries of awesome!! He was a great obstetrician (delivered my son)and a wonderful man.

My family and I grieve the loss of a very special friend - Dr. Bill Francis. Someone we all felt would always be apart of our lives and in a sense still is, just not in the flesh. For almost 50 years, Bill was always there to encourage, comfort and support us in every possible way. He is special because he made those around him feel special and important - a great gift! We left his presence feeling happy and cared for. As our doctor he made sure we received the finest medical attention. Bill delivered my daughter Jamianne. "Doctor Bill" was one of my greatest supporters throughout my career as an artist. His enthusiasm and encouragement will be deeply missed. Our deep condolences go out to Bunny and family as well all mourn the loss of a wonderful friend and great man. You will be forever missed.

This is a sad loss for us and our community. Bill called to see if a Food Bank client might need wood for warmth, as they had some to share. But the arrangement to pick up the wood included an offer to have a swim in the Francis' pool; the boys were thrilled! We will never forget Dr. Bill as 'the Teddy Bear doctor' at a Spring Event in Pottageville. He carefully examined every ailing bear; it seemed most were suffering from 'bumps and woozles'. He totally enchanted the kids. With love...

A wonderful friend. He was a man of class. Very supportive of so many, and so full of vim and vigour. I last saw him at our study group, and he added a lot to our meeting. He used to pop up at the most unexpected places, such as when I met him on the streets of Creemore, Ontario. I will miss him "big time". Len Grover MD

Exactly! He said "cut your hair or no pool". I cut my hair. He said "study hard or no pool". I studied hard. And he said he had faith in my ability to succeed. After my own father passed away in 1972, Billsie encouraged me to fight hard to find a future in aviation. I don't think it would have happened without his guidance which then led to an "awesome" 36 year career with CP Air / Air Canada.
May you rest in peace my friend.
Exactly!!

Sorry to see Bill's obit in the Globe yesterday. Have many great memories of him through Med's School, and 5T4 reunions, My photo album is full of pictures of Bill, especially at Brittania Lodge, where a bunch of us took a short holiday after graduation. The group included Pete Vernon, Stu Sims, Bob McMillen, John Digby, John Keenleyside, and others, I am sure. Bill taught us to use SCUBA gear on that occasion, and there is a shot of him in full regalia!! Bill was always "up", always congenial, and forever fun to be with. We feel so sad…. A bright light snuffed out too soon. I worked with Dr Francis in the OR when York Finch Hospital first opened. I respected him professionally and he was a blast to work with….I then got to know him on a more personal obstetrical level over the next 5 years as he delivered our son and 2 daughters by C-section. I guess I didn’t see him too much after that. I think his wife may remember when our first child was born. Dr Francis and his wife both had to rush to the hospital late on a Friday night from a gala so Dr Francis could attend to me – he in his tuxedo and his wife all dolled up. She sat and waited and chatted to my husband Terry. We are really really sorry for your loss. Sincerely Joyce and Terry Wallbridge

I join with so many others who knew Billl in offering my deepest sympathy on his passing. He was a terrific "boss" and great friend. The measure of a life well-lived is not how much money one has or what possessions we have accumulated, but rather through the lives we have touched and sorrow we leave behind. Bill's life indeed was a life well-lived. May you find peace and comfort in knowing that his loss is felt by all who knew and loved him.

Dr. Francis was an amazing doctor who saved my life in l968, at Grace Hospital. I spent a few months in hospital and by morning I was always frightened...that was until Dr. Francis came for his morning visit. Just his presence and his words of encouragement. I lived in several places for a few years and even when I lived in Sarnia I always drove back to Toronto to have my yearly check-up with him. I am so sorry for your loss, I realize my words cannot ease the pain of losing such a wonderful man but I sincerely wanted to let you know.

He always made me laugh and thought that William was a great name for the baby!It truly is!I got goosebumps when I saw his picture just now.I guess his work on earth was done and God wanted him now.I speak of him often: his work ethic, expertise and passion. One of the few great ones.
