Dear Cyndi, Mary and families, Cyndi, i've followed John's ups and downs with his health over the years through Mary and wanted to let you know how very sorry I am to hear of his death. I did not know him well except through Mary, but do remember going to your house on Belsize (was it?) Drive when I was living with Mary during University Days. I recall him as a kind and gentle man who was very devoted to his family. I also have a couple of happy memories of visiting the cottage on Lake Cecebe with Mary. I'm sure the cottage brought you and your families many happy memories over the years as well which I hope will help with your grief over the time to come. Just wanted to let you know that I was thinking of both you, Mary and your respective families and wishing you peace at this very difficult time. Anne Ferguson (Mary's Roomie from Victoria College Days)

Cynthia, We are so sorry to hear about John. I knew him as a good friend both early in my life and later in my life. We will miss him. And we are thinking of you. We wish we could be with you at this time. Peter and Paulette June 5/09. Spring and the land lies fresh green, Beneath a yellow sun. We walked the land together, you and I, And never knew what future days would bring. Will you often think of me, When flowers burst forth each year? When the earth begins to grow again? Some say death is so final, Fall and the earth begins to die, and leaves turn golden brown upon the trees, Remember me too in autumn, for I will walk with you, as of old, along a city sidewalk at evening-time, Though I cannot hold you by hand. Winter, and perhaps someday there may be another fireplace, another room, with crackling fire and fragrant smoke, But until then if loneliness should seek you out, some winter night , when snow is falling down, Remember, though death has come to me, Love will never go away!

John was a wonderful person and his memory will live forever in my heart. I will never forget how he welcomed my family when we visited the cottage. First, with a welcoming waiving of a hand or sometime both hands when we approached the bay. Second, with a gracious smile and firm handshake when we met at the cottage. With loving memories Quinn Regis

Dear Cousins, We are deeply saddened to hear of your loss and John's passing. We hope and pray that you are surrounded with love and support during these tough days. We will fondly remember John, how ready he was to hear or give a good story or joke, to enjoy the beauty of Bingham's Bay. His eyes had that tinge of irony that was disarming, allowing people to open up and engage. We will miss him. With much love, Mark, Ruthia & Sofia Regis

Dear Cindy and family: I am writing to express my sympathy at the passing of John. Late last week, I was speaking with Cathie Schmid, who told me that John was very ill. I then saw the obituary in today's Globe & Mail. I did not know John, of course -- but I wanted to let you know that you are in my thoughts and prayers at this time. I am aware that there is nothing I can say which would assuage your feelings of sadness and loss. And that is as it should be. Still, I hope that it will help you to know that many other friends, as well as myself, are thinking of you especially, at the moment. Sincerely, Wendy L.
